The kid is good on the sticks, but that laugh in the video makes him sound as mad as a hatter.

I once built a RC plane from Correx (plastic corrugated material) and I also recall guys using cardboard around the same time to make flyable planes, although we all used aerofoil section wings instead of flat sheet as that appeared to have. All materials needed sealing back then, because we were flying IC instead of electric.

Also scary to realise that I last flew in 1997.
 
Agree about the laughter but its a great video. I wondered how a plane without an aerofoil wing would fly, but it obviously does.

Aerofoils are greatly over-rated. ;)

But in all seriousness, a plate-shaped wing section will still work as an aerofoil at a shallow angle of attack, but will tend to stall earlier because the airflow over the upper surface will break away more easily (often a problem for racing aeroplanes using a very thin section wing).
