Just had this email via flickr

Hello Jason,

I came across your beautiful photo of the Rockefeller Center and I'm wondering if I can purchase the original digital file. My boyfriend's brother asked his g/f to marry him in front of the tree on Nov 30, 2012, and I would like to get this photo printed w. their names & engagement date inscribed on it, and give it to them as an engagement present.

Please let me know if this is possible.

Maria

I'm chuffed to bits with the enquiry, but am I right to be suspicious of the request for the original digital file?

They might just mean the full size version, which Flickr calls the original.

Sell them a print instead. Work at roughly 300-400% over cost.

Not for a print. 300% cost on a 10x8" is going to be £1.10 and therefore your price £4-5.

You should be looking at making significantly more than that on paper. The image you put on it has the value not the material it is printed on.

Personally I'd offer them the digital file licenced for their personal use only for £50. Or get the details to add to the image and sell them a print up-to 12x8" for £35.

And yes the digital file is worth *more* than the print.

Good point. I was thinking about canvases for some reason!

Yup, x4 is way too low for prints.

Thanks everyone, I was thinking along the lines of photo box and sending them a link to purchase from there. Anyone used this option before?

Hi Jas,

Yes, I use that route regularly and with excellent feedback from customers - which I think just goes to show they can't tell the difference between an average quality print and a great one :)

Just make sure you go into the prices section and select the products you want to offer and set the amount you want for each. I think Mike's about right in his pricing :)

Thanks Steve, think I'll use this route already got an account setup and I dont have to worry about postage etc.
