Hi,

Quick question. Would a magazine or paper publish a photo taken on a Canon 400D. I've been told that this is not a "professionals" camera and the quality of pictures wouldn't be good enough for magazines, etc. I assume they are refering to pixels, etc.

Any thoughts.

Cheers

If the shot is well exposed, etc. then shouldn't be any problem regardless of what camera it was taken with. A couple of weeks ago a shot taken by a TP member on their 350D appeared in my local paper...

As long as the image can be printed at 300dpi at A4, then it doesn't matter the camera it came from.

As Pxl8 says. No problem with the camera. None at all.

The thing you need to be aware of is that most magazines/publications etc want LARGE images.
If you are only shooting Small jpg then these would be far too small to do anything with.
Large fine jpg will be OK, but best is if you take RAW, which can then be converted to 16 bit TIFF or similar. Some photo sites want 50Meg images , which means the data has to be upsized.

Most photo mags will state what they want in the small print if for a "reader" gallery or similar.

I have had photos published in newspapers and mags and i have a fuji s5000

so go for it

I had a cover shot for a newspaper wedding supplement printed at 150dpi - they cropped a portrait shot from a landscape framed image and printed it at approx. A3

i have got a photo being published in a mag next month shot with my 400D, as other people have said if the resolution is high enough should be ok :)

As a freelance magazine designer i have to say what is important is the competance of the photographer rather than equipment. there is absolutely no problem in the resolution of an image from a 400D printing in a magazine.

For someone that has had work published the the BJP taken on a Fuji bridge camera it is nonsense. Get submitting.

Whilst a professional may not choose a 400D for most of their work, mostly due to the build quality of the consumber grade cameras probably not being up to the rough and tough of a day to day working 'tog, the quality of the images it produces (in the right hands) is suitable for magazine use.

Whoever told you it isn't is ignorant.
