Today I went to York via train to pick up my new car, and I can say its the first time since the 70s since I used public transport and my "hasnt it changed" all mod cons on the fast trains, inc wifi telly and more important.........a decent but expensive bar, none of which I used as it was a fast seevice and no stops so was only 15 mins but I have to say I was impressed and may take the train in future on longer journeys:thumbs:............less to be said about the taxi fare on Yorks busiest day of the year though:thumbsdown: (felt really sorry for the taxi driver)

The bus drivers where I live are all moody bar stewards though!

all this and no mention of cost as im sure that has risen since you last used them. I went to a party the other week and first time in 5 years i considered a taxi but after being quoted £18 each way i said i wouldnt bother drinking as daughter is only 9 months old so was onlt gonna be there for an hour or 2, found they wanted £18 for 5 mile journey, glad i drove there now as i was home for 10pm anyway.

Those trains are nothing like the ones I have to catch.

Wifi? Yes, if you pay for it.
Telly?

Was that 1st class?

Trains I have to catch are overcrowded, most are dirty and scruffy. Can never pick up a wifi signal, even if I wanted to pay for it. Telly? You're joking. Bar? Only the extortionate beers on the food/drink trolley!

Thank goodness I only have 2 more train trips to make with my current job. That's one thing I won't miss.

I sometimes get the train to Preston, last time I did was a few months ago, as the doors opened the smell hit me straight in the face :gag:

I got on and it was absolutely packed, like one of those Japanese underground trains you see on TV.

At Wigan a few got off which made more room so I found a spot to stand in, then I noticed the download T shirts

No wonder it stank in there, it was full of teenagers that hadn't washed in 3 days, I ended up stuck next to a girl of about 19 who had a distinct smell of cheese about her.

Public transport is OK if you get a day when you can get a seat and it's not full of sweaty kids

Public Transport is a joke if you live in a small village 20 miles from the nearest town.

The only time I get the train normally is if I'm going shopping either to Leeds in which case I drive to Skipton to catch it, Manchester I drive to Clitheroe or Carlisle I drive to Ribblehead.

I did a long train journey for the first time in years back in February. I do the slog into London a lot of the time but this was different. Peterborough to Kingussie in First Class, return for £110 by booking ahead. Its a 1000 mile round trip - couldn't do that in the car for that money!

Got the train to Poole and back yesterday (only 20 mins each way) and was wholly impressed. Not so impressed with some of the other passengers, but the train was good.

The train I was on was or looked to be new stock It was operated by east coast trains and had a very smart blue paint job, probably wont be in the same condition in a few months time no doubt

Did train a few weekends back, Romford to Huntingdon - journey fabby - cost hmmm £44 return (overnight stay) probably less in diesal - but was a relaxing journey. Buses I detest.
