Yes
Just wondering who here has public liability insurance. I'm not talking about insurance on your kit, but for public liability.

I have £2M cover, as I need it because of the line of work I do but surely everyone needs public liability cover nowadays, even if you don't work pro. Someone could trip over your bag/tripod/shadow and then sue you for £££.

Anyone else got public liability cover and, more importantly, those of you who don't have cover ~ why not?

I got mine as part of my PhotoGuard Pro cover.

I think i'm paying £40 per month which covers all of my kit, trailer, some of my computing equipment and public liability for £2 million.

Also covers indemnity also...

I think you need it in todays society...

Me too; with PhotoGuard, and it doesn't cost the earth.

I pay about £650 for £10,000 worth of kit, £2M public liability and all the kit (including laptop) can be left in the motor unattended* (out of sight) up to 9pm.

I also pay £350 for fully comp and business use on my Defender, which includes using it with the mast.

* Unattended means left overnight somewhere. If it is parked somewhere and I'm nearby (in a shop/pub/garage etc) then that is not unattended. The only kit I need to remove overnight is the cameras, lenses and laptop, all the other kit can remain (including the mast which is worth over £4,000 on it's own).

A lot of the time it's really a specialists thing anyway.

I got cover for my mobile trailer unit which has 3 specced machines in there, printers, hundreds of pounds worth of frames etc and Photoguard were great. They cover me for mobile shows when the unit is left onsite, unattended over night.

£40 a month for £11k equipment. They wouldnt cover the big epson printer though :'(

I get £2 million so I can be track side at Supermoto races.

Carl.

I have 2m Liability cover from Photoguard.. I do a lot of non league football at pitchside so have the cover... But really you should have it anyways when your out and about in public

Because if some **** falls over my bag, thats their fault. Its the same as if I had just been shopping at Tescos, and someone walked in to my shopping, I don't have public liability insurance for my shopping, so why for any other bag?

Public liability is generally only needed for 'employee'. So that could be yourself (as a self employed person) or another photographer you employ or a model or someone who is holding a reflector blah blah blah.

But just walking around the street, you don't need it in my opinion.

I just spent a while googling accidents, and most claims are against employers, public councils or manufacturers.

If you have an accident, you have to prove fault/neglect. And not seeing an object in your path such as someones bag (or another person) or whatever is pretty much your own fault. Tripping over a lifted paving slab, or poorly constructed step, yeah, mr local council is gonna be writing you a cheque.

Maybe you have more information, but sueing another individual, in public, who is there for leisure purposes, looks like a bit of a non starter.

And if someone did fall over my bag, and break their leg, they wouldn't catch me anyway :)
