PSE Elements 11 - Borders?

I used to use PSE10 and was quite happy with it until I tried to reinstall it on to a new computer but that's another story. To cut a long story short I recently purchased PSE11

After an absence of using PSE for about a year and combined with the new user interface I'm simply struggling to be able to add a simple black border. Frustrating beyond belief!

Just wondered if anyone could point me in the right direction ?

Thanks Richard, I have tried this unless i'm very much mistaken it just puts a black bar on the bottom of the image. I really can't see the point in this. I spend ages on this yesterday and the early hours of this morning and still can't figure this out.

Image > resize canvas
In the width/height box increase by the size of the border you want
At the bottom select the canvas colour you want
Click ok

Job done

Thanks Rikk that's way to fiddly and time consuming for me I have just tried it using the relative box I have never had any success this way,

I used to be able draw a box around the image using the rectangular marquee tool and then change the colour to black it was really quick

If you want a simple outline then select all of the image (Ctrl + A); then goto Edit > Stroke. Choose width and colour from the popup window. Also select Inside as an option.

I find it best to do this on a seperate layer so that you can easily change it if you want.

Also you have options for a semi transparent border etc and can add a double border by using different sizes...
For a black I use 50 then with an added white edge 10

Thanks for your help today Colin and Martyn. I spoke with the Adobe helpline this morning after getting part way with this. Like most things it's all to easy when you know how. I have discovered that PSE 11 has a very useful refine edge tool on the rectangular marquee

No doubt you've realised that there are many, many ways of doing the same thing within Photoshop.

A few years back I bought a book by Dave Cross called 'Photoshop Finishing Touches'. It has lots of different suggestions and details about different borders and frames. Might be worth a look if you're interested in that sort of thing.

for what its worth I do it the "Spuriousfish" way.
