Yes
I've just bought a ps3 and looking to get some 2nd hand games now my m8 said to be carefull as they have a code and if they are used I would have to purchase another ? To go online so how would I go about getting them and how much do they cost

The PlayStation Network is free. He might be thinking of the trial codes for X-Box Live than many X-Box 360 games have.
Have fun!

Never had a code with any of my PS3 games for on-line play, and I have had a few second-hand ones too.

Some have online passes to unlock stuff but usually they are not required.

Price for the additional content will vary

Let me know what games you are after and i will see what I have and stick them in the for sale section.

Some games do require a pass to play online multilayer. Battlefield 3, modern warfare 3 and batman arkam city need one if my memory serves me right. The passes can be bought from the online store. Think the battlefield 3 pass was 7.99

one tip from me to a new PS3 owner is if you are interesteded in most of these games...

Crysis 2
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One
Bulletstorm
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World: The Game
Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition
Double Dragon Neon
Cubixx HD
LittleBigPlanet 2
MotorStorm Apocalypse
inFAMOUS 2

then consider a Playstation + subscription assuming its a biggish storage HDD and you have fast unlimited bband, Batman Arkham City is available from Dec 5th too..

I find PS+ useful because it urges me to try games I wouldn't normally try, they run from HDD so no disc changing and it saves all my game saves to the cloud(I have been through several PS3s and have lost alot of game saves)..

the games listed are only active when on the subscription, there are many other games you can purchase with PS+ discounts, these are still active when your subscription ends and yours to keep.

it might not be for you but certainly worth looking at.

How much is a subscription if you dont mind me asking?

EA have code's for all there online games now so you cant play without them dont get confused with xbox as it is both xbox and Ps3 that this happens on it is a way to make you buy new games or spend stupid money on the code

I thought all PS3 stuff was free to play online? Being an Xbox man obviously I pay for a years Xbox live (which you can get for about £30 a year now), its interesting to hear some publishers charge individually to play their games online via the Playstation network.

On Xbox live, you have to create an online 'account' to play BF3 etc,(probably with any EA game) but there's no extra charge.

I'm guessing thats because on the Playstation network they use dedicated hosts?

If more of them follow it could cost more than a years Xbox live to go online with the Playstation network!

Fifa is the same on Xbox and PS3, you get an online code in the box with the disc which you put in to play online matches.. if you but a pre owned copy and the code has been used then you have to pay for an online pass..

its not a Xbox/PS3 thing its a publisher thing, and more and more are doing it to combat their loss of profit.

That's interesting. I'll stay clear of used EA games then. You can get Fifa new for about £20 from some online retailers. If you buy a used copy from say, HMV or Blockbuster, add the £7 or so on for the pass, you've paid as much as a new one!

you want to steer clear of all those on the pre owned market unless ridiculously cheap or you have no desire to play online.

Yeah lots of companies (xbox, ps3, pc, the lot) include a single-use code for online access to crack down on the 2nd hand market, or at least allow them to generate revenue from 2nd hand sales. It's a pretty cheap tactic if you ask me, but as I don't buy 2nd hand or sell games it doesn't actually affect me.

It seems to be the way all games are heading what with Steam being required for lots of PC games, constant internet connection required for others etc. It's all a bit of a joke. Especially when you consider the state a lot of games get released in. It's not unusual to have to wait a month after release for the 1st patches to come out and actually bring the game to a playable level.

yup, as i ranted a while back i wanted to sell my copy of MW3 for PC but i cant because its tied to steam. you can see why people pirate.

Save your money and don't buy either, so over rated its becoming a joke. Would be ok if they did something new, buts its the same old thing every year.

Have a look at Farcry 3, reviews seem to be very good. Plus the single player game last more than 6 hours I believe.

Or just be done with it and buy battlefield 3

Still bloody good though!

any EA game will have a code within the game case and can be used once only with the console it was activated on. these codes are to access online only for example, playing fifa, etc online. so if the code has been used you will have to purchase a new code.

however majority of the games are fine.

far cry 3 is absolutely gorgeous. the visuals are absolutely stunning however that is coming from the point of view from a hardcore pc gamer running the game in dx11 who's rig will play anything on ultra settings with an average. fps of 70-80.

my brother has it on the ps3. it still looks good however.

Picked up inFamous 2 for £15 at the weekend, been waiting years for that to drop to a reasonable price.

I have Far Cry 2 and although its gorgeous to look at and initially great fun to play, I got bored with the constant driving for miles between missions etc.

Is Far Cry 3 a lot better?

I know how you feel. If you fancy playing against someone who's equally rubbish, my PSN ID is Johnd2000. Although you should be warned that my 10 year old uses the same account and he WILL "own you" (to use his terminology).

I'd also recommend joining the Old Age Playstationers (OAP.org, IIRC). They're a good bunch of mature gamers (some good, some nearly as bad as me) who organise private games away from the great unwashed.

I've had them all form CoD4, and this isthe first time after a release i've gone back and played the older game (MW3) more than the newer game (BO2).

any of you non PS+ peeps want to try it out the 90 day sub is on offer @ £7.99(usually £11.99)..

remember all the free games expire when your sub does but the PS+ offers you had to pay for is yours to keep forever and you do get some decent money off stuff so might be worth the £7.99..

Hitman Absolution £19.99 @ Game/Gamestation and Amazon.....not sure for how long though

Thanks for the above - will look at it when I get home.

The only game I play on-line really is MW3. I have played the other versions on other PS3s but get slaughtered within seconds. At least with MW3 I know the maps and the best places to hang out and tips to rack up the scores faster.

Played Need for Speed on-line a few times but despite having the fastest car I still get lapped every time :D

Saw Lego Lord of the rings for £20 in asda yesterday and was tempted. Saving me money for far cry 3 though.
