PS Elements vrs CS3. Advice needed

I have PSCS3 at home but I need something at work to be able to do simple manipulation of the images to modify the image to fit report templates etc. I also need to be able to do simple contrast, exposure, curves of other's images to make the photos usable in marketing leaflets.

For the occasional use that I'd make of it at work CS3 is overkill and too expensive. PS Elements is available to me but I've never used it - will it do?

As far as I know elements doesn't have a curves control or levels, unless they've been added since ver 4.

I use Elements for all my post processing, the only thing I'd like from CS3 is the ability to record actions

I think that Lightroom would do the trick.

Elements6 does have levels and most other image adjustment controls, no curves but there is a plugin called Smart Curves.

Do you need colour management?
If not, then you could try the GIMP, which is free. The UI might take you a bit to get used to, but it's quite nice once you do.
Elements should be capable of doing all the basic stuff.
There's a trial download on Adobe's website for Photoshop Elements.
