PS CS5 saving problem

Does anyone else get this problem?

CS5 keeps running out of ram, I have it set to the maximum and have 4Gb on the computer. The main problem I have is with it not wanting to "save as" this can happen on the first picture I edit or any after, no relation to how much work has been done on it, so I tend to finish editing the photo, save it back to LR and then export it from there in the format I want

im by no means a expert but i did read somewhere that you shouldnt set it to maximum as this uses all the computers ram, the computer needs some to do other tasks,
i would try lower it a bit and see if it helps (i think i have mine set to 80%)

have you got a scratch disk set up?

Yes, I have a scratch disk (three in fact). I have tried various memory options up to the maximum and it does not make a lot of difference, nor does having just PS open when I first turn on the computer.

It is an intermittent problem so maybe I will work it out at some point

Which was sold to me as a fast new super-dooper computer just 18 months ago

Right up to the point it, and everything else, grinds to a halt :thumbsdown::bang:

Then it's a reboot to start again - Grrrrrrrr

Try dropping the RAM to 2.5Gb and seeing what happens. The computer needs plenty of memory for other stuff going on in the background. You can always up it to 2.8, 3, 3.2 etc
