Is there a way of proving an image was taken with a specific camera??

I have some images taken with a D70 (supposedly taken with someone elses camera when I wasn't there) and I also have a D70, is there anything in the exif details that prove it came from my camera?

The camera/lens serial numbers are often in the exif.
Depends on the exif reader as to if they are displayed though.
Note that these fields can also be edited so not so good as concrete proof.

It would be enough proof as to what I want the information for.

The 'get info' on my mac doesn't give me any info on lens or camera serial numbers. etc

It's not to prove copyright or anything and the person I am challenging with it wouldn't know how to change the exif details.

put your shot on picassa 3 freeware
and then click properties...it shows the camera name etc...and probably all you need to know....
wont do it for saved for web shots in photoshop..

If you have Adobe Bridge it will tell you the Serial number of the camera used. At least it does with my camera images. ;)

I've just tried it with an older image from when I had the D70 and there was a serial number in the EXIF data, though it contained letters, which I don't remember the serial number of the camera having, but the number is consistent on every image.

Ecky Thump! Fireworks round yours tonight then!

Chris, you a star. I have just managed to get enough information out of my camera that is going to put my Mrs into a very awkward position later on.

Thank you very much.

i think you ought to keep your family affairs private...please!!
:geek:

Nope I'm being serious. Don't quite think it's fair that all is revealed though as there are a couple of people on here who know her.

Either tell me all or i will just make it up and post it..
She been a naughty girl?

Oh dear. :shake:

I'm trying REALLY hard not to be interested in this thread, but it's just not working.

I won't be posting anything more on here tbh, as it has served its purpose and I have managed to gather the information I needed. Sorry folks I've probably put more than I should have, but me fuming and also not having a cigarette for the past 2 days is not helping the situation. I need to go out I think.

Good luck.

Are you angry about the pictures, or the choice of camera used to take the pictures??

Wouldn't be a problem if they had been taken on a Canon im guessing, is it really bad that I wanna know more? lol

Seems simple to me, OP has got hold of some dubious images of the wife and he wanted to check if they were from his camera or someone elses, now he has seen they are someone elses and the wifes in trouble. Case closed. just call me columbo

Not quite the issue in the first place so sorry Joe you've come to the wrong conclusion.

I was disappointed in finding the pictures in the first place, finding out which camera they were taken with was the issue and I needed to prove the exact camera they came from. As it is they were taken with my camera so that's not the issue anymore.

well, you need to provide some more evidence, your comments above about position of your wife and her in trouble leads to this conclusion!

This is beginning to sound like an episode in a soap opera where the various characters don't actually talk to each other and an enormous misunderstanding ensues....

:agree:

Putting 3 n 6 together...

The wife in her undercrackers?
You think who took these?
If its not your camera, who's pressing the shutter.....

But it is yours, so its a self timer job. Innocent pics, all is well.

yay or nay?

Surely though just because they were taken with his camera doesn't mean someone else still couldn't have been pressing the shutter?

The wife in her undercrackers?

Correct.

You think who took these?

I've been told it was someone with the same model camera as mine.

But it is yours, so its a self timer job. Innocent pics, all is well.

Correct as the serial numbers on camera and lens match, wrong she wouldn't know how to use it, wrong as I had lent the camera to a friend who lives over 30 miles away.

yay or nay?

So my conclusion would be nay.

Eeeekkkkkk sorry to hear this mate and hope everything gets sorted, Id be having a word with "friend" :bat:.

reminds me so much of this picture:

I know it is very easy to suspect the worse - I have been under suspicion when in fact I did nothing wrong (but made a bad judgement call). Can tear both parties apart from the inside if you don't talk about it fairly calmly.

I hope it turns out to be innocent and you both come out of it stronger.

I'll come clean on some ommited information, this happened 2 years ago and at the time I accepted the explanation, which I won't go into. I since lost the memory stick the pictures were put on and have recently found it. I then had a conversation with my friend about something completely different and it brought it round to about that time in 2008. He then stopped mid-sentence and said we'll go no further on that. This raised my suspicions again hence the need in the last couple of days to try and pin-point the camera used. Having had this confirmed now I don't know what to do. Everything at home is fine and I'm not sure I need to bring this up again, but it's the only thing I can think about at the moment.

I would sit down and have a word with your missus, if you dont this will play on your mind it at some point it will all come bursting out in a destructive way. Its pretty clear that your upset/angry/confused by all this and you need to have an explanation as closure on the subject. Since it was 2 years ago and you say everything seems fine now you are likely to get a straight honest answer from her, just hope the explanation is an innocent one, but its ALWAYS better to know the truth.
