... my first dslr, a Canon 400d. Can't wait to start using it. I've charged up the battery and started reading the manual and hopefully at the weekend I'll be out and about taking my first shots with it :woot:

Congrat's and I'm sure you'll enjoy it immensely.

First DSLR......when you're out for the first time you'll be shooting anything and everything so try this.
Take a shot using the appropriate automatic setting and then repeat the same shot using one of the "creative zone" settings....Av or TV and vary the aperture or shutter speed a little.
When your finished and looking at the shots you'll have a better understanding of how the settings affect the outcome.
Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peterson will be £10 well spent too.

Congrats :) Looks to be a gorgeous weekend coming too so ideal.

As you are in the WM I would suggest popping down to Slimbridge, excellent venue for wasting a couple of hours wandering round shooting wild/plant life
 
congrats i have one too its a gr8 camera, and im glad u made the right choice of canon over nikerless nikon :)
 
Ducky, congratulations :woot:. I know how you feel as I too am a new owner of a Canon 400D and although I have no experience of other cameras, I am thrilled with mine. Have lots of fun clicking away at anything that moves, good luck and I know you will throughly enjoy your new toy :clap:
