Protection Filters - To Use or Not to Use

A camera? :D

Who do some people get so worked up over other people using or not using filters for whatever reason? If people are happy let 'em get on with doing things their way instead of trying to make out like they're stupid.

Live and let live. :)

That comment is well out of order.

How dare you make reasoned, sensible suggestions in the filter/no filter debate?

Disgusting, I call it. Kids could be reading this y'know, mutter mutter...

That sounds quite dangerous. What do you use to protect your face? I'll bet it's not a wafer-thin sheet of glass!

A most unique and rather silly analogy.

My face tends to remain undamaged after being pelted by soil and gravel - and if there is any damage from repeated peltings by soil and gravel then my face tends to grow back. For free.

I highlighted soil and gravel above for a reason. Because that is what I was referring to - I'm not talking about stuff that will break a filter or a front element - just stuff that over time might damage the lens element.
