I recently decided to purchase Proshow Gold. I did my first viewing last night all the images burned to a DVD and off I went. Got to the couples house, popped in the DVD and I have never seen my images look as bad as this. All the highlights blown out, colours way way off just total rubbish, I spent the whole time apologising and telling them that the final images look far better than this. Fortunately I had them on my laptop and they could see.

I burned the DVD at High Qualty at safe spped. It was set for PAL and 16:9 aspect ratio. The pics were between 3.5 &3.0 MB at 240dpi. They were played back on a sony 42" TV through a PS3.

Anyone else had this or am I expecting too much from it?
 
In pre mac days I made loads of slide shows with proshow gold and they always looked brilliant. Very odd you had the problem

I use it all the time - the problem is usually the client's TV or monitor

Remember - you've produced it on a calibrated monitor which shows white where it is white, black in the right place and a good tonal range in-between

I have a "How to view your DVD" document I give to everyone telling them it's all their fault and that my images are the dog's Bs - pre-warning them is the answer, but if you could have mucked about with their TV you'd probably have gotten something close to realistic

Same problem at our camera club where the now old projector throws loads of magenta into the image, a few people in competitions now dial OUT accordingly to get a better colour - if I could be arsed we could simply calibrate the projector too - but then I may not win so often :D

how total rubbish were they. I agree all TVs are different but if they were that different lots of us would all be watching rubbish TV. I see lots of TVs in people's homes and these days they all seem, within reason ok

What looks good on Proshow will look brighter on a TV but it should not be to the extent you mention.

The DVD is Pal

Pal = 720 x 576 pixels so you are relying on Proshow to resize all your pictures
 
I have done about 20 slideshows now for family using Prowshow and not had any probs either :shrug:
 
We use Pro Show Producer all the time for weddings, parties, presentations etc and up to now all have been perfect aprt from one which we replaced only to find the same problem.
It turned out to be the DVD player at fault, once changed all was ok, the moral....check every possibility!
 
I use pro show gold and the images on one of my tv's /dvd players is slightly too bright whereas on one of my other tv / dvd players they are way too dark......I do similar to diddy dave and tell the client that they need to adjust the tv if required.....I verbally tell them this and, because half the time they are not listening, I also clearly outline this requirement in a letter I supply with the dvd.

I did a pro show presentation for work recently. I selected everything at high res and when it went onto the TV dvd it looked poor.
What are the best settings to use pro show gold for viewing on a TV?
 
On my DVD's I include a calibration chapter with 3 pages. The first page is instructions on calibration and how to use the next two pages. The second page is a grayscale and the third page is a colour calibration image.

I ask clients to first go through the calibration chapter before playing the DVD. It's funny how they say that their TV channels look great after doing the calibration :-)

What club is this, Are you a member of PAGB I was understood that all Club equipment has to be calibrated and set up as per the rules. As equipment secretary I do this to all our equipment.
This make it very unfair; what do you do with interclub battles

I think resolution is at the heart of the problem I'm experiencing with DVD burning.

Images look great if I connect the laptop to the tv using a VGA cable as they are displaying at 1024x768. However, as soon as I burn a DVD using Proshow gold it looks really poor at 720x576.

Only option appears to be upgrade to Bluray (burner and player) to 1920 x 1080. But this is no good if your customers dont have Bluray.
