what setting do i need for prop blur on my canon 35mm camera:help:

I'm no expert having only one airshow but I found somewhere between 1/100th - 1/200th in shutter priority worked best.

Pkitch, really does depend on the plane. Spitfires, Mustangs and other fighters can cope with 250-300/sec, whereas larger planes, Lancasters B17's etc need to be slowed down a little, say 200-250/sec. Also look at what the planes doing, if it's gunning it obviously the props will be going faster than if it is just coasting. The key really is to learn your planes.

thanks for your help lads i'll try it out this weekend

True, but with one or two things worth noting

Props are normally limited to about 2500-3000 rpm depending on the size of the prop disc. If it goes faster than that the tips of the blade will go supersonic and apart from being rather noisy they start to lose efficiency as the one blade starts to "fly" through the wake turbulence left by the other.

Yes the attitude and activity of the bird at the time will definitely play a role as the above rpm pertains to full power settings - very generalised.

Props in general will do roughly 50 revs per second at or near full power so I would say experiment with 1/90 to 1/125 for a start and see what you get!

I tend to start with 1/2ooth then look on the LCD screen and see how much if any blur i am getting on the given day as general light/weather conditions will affect speeds etc, then adjust faster or slower from there, ocassionally checking on the screen as each different aircraft displays so you adjust per plane as well

thanks everyone for your help, have'nt been able to try any of the tips yet due to the dodgy weather we're avin. hopefully this weekend :|
