Project: Vectra-C [56k Beware]

What's the del with this de-badging mallarky? Want to get the badges off my Seat Cupra R but a bit scared I'll knacker the paint up. Is it just a case of sticking the hair dryer on it then using a credit card to seperate the badge from the paint?

Keith,

If your interested, Get yourself over to www.vectra-c.com. You'll find me there too and there are lots of mod tips and photography types too. The two seam to go hand in hand.

For the record, my 120 BHP CDTi paid a visit to the Vauxhall touing car team and now pushes 169 bhp and 308 torques! I debadged it at the badges ripped my cleaning clotes to shreads.

Am I the only one that gets oddly angry at overly blue lights? I don't know why, it just really annoys me.

The lights I have now are for my benefit, as they're more like daytime, than normal lights. They may look a bit blue, but in the pitch black, I can see like it's daytime without the need for a high beam on.

The way I done it was with some hot water from a kettle, poured it over the badges, then got a screwdriver, and prised the badges off. You can use your nails/credit card, but I have no nails, and didn't have a credit card handy.

The hairdryer is supposed to be good too, but again, I didn't have one by hand lol.

I'm on there mate. :) Keith Fusco on there too. What's your name on there?

It's so much easier cleaning the car with no badges on like! :D

Have a guess? ;). It was that lot that got into photography. Both are too expensive and time consuming

You're Brocks haha. :P

It was a E46 forum that got me into photography, as I was going to get one, so went onto the forum to post for a while, and got hooked on the photo's.

I have a rack of photos on the gallery over there. Not many are good enough for here...But maybe one day ;)

Which BTCC, 2008 or 2007? 2007 was a dismal failure even though I had a proper set up. I had the kids to babsit. 2007 I was on my tod but was only armed with a Fuji S9600.

Just another small update...

Dan made me some stickers, so I added those:

And it snowed...

Not done much progress since last time. The driver's side bulb broke, so I ordered a new set of bulbs to replace the one's I had, so I've lost the rainbowness. I also removed the front bumper, so I could get in, and change the foglights/indicators, and those pictures will come soon.

I done all of that on Saturday, and on Saturday night I went to West Auckland to photography a party, and on the way back, discovered that I had a flat tyre! It still had a little bit air in, so I came home on that, but pumped it up half way back. The roads were pitch black on the A1, and the roads after to get back home, so I didn't bother changing it until the next day.

As a result, I missed the Corsa-D|UK borders meet, as I can only go 50mph on this wheel. Shopping around for another tyre today, so hopefully will get it fitted when I finish work at 4pm!

Here's another quick update:

Today, I decided to do a few things. The first one, was to get some pictures of the silver indicators that I put in the other day, to wash the car, and also de-badge the SRi from the front sides of the car. I got some pictures of the indicators, de-badged the sides, and then started to wash it. Managed to get the driver's side done, then it chucked down with rain, so I went inside!

It then stopped, so I decided to take the car out, and get some pictures, and have a mess with my flash again. Got out to the first location, set-up, took a shot, and the flash didn't go off. Tried again, but no, nothing, so I assumed the battery was dead, so I stuck the flash onto the camera, and shot away.

Turns out the battery in the wireless receiver was dead, so I replaced it with another CR2 battery when I got home, and works fine. Sods law!

Anyway, here's some pictures. I've always wanted to do one of the open bonnet style shots, but always been too lazy to set-up the tripod, so I did it this time for a change. Not sure about editing though, as the two pictures were different exposures. Never gave it a thought before hand!

Another cheeky update. After washing the car, I decided to give those inside long exposures a trial, to see how well I could do. Stuck the tripod in the back, put the passenger seat pretty much flat to secure the camera, and seatbelted it in. Worked ok, apart from when I moved my hands etc, it got the movement!

Not bad for a first try. Will have to do it again to get it right...

Well...it's a very nice Vectra...we use those as 'company cars' and I have to admit that 1.9 TDCI really shifts - a lot more than the boggo 2.0 TDI...
Superchips do a decent tuning solution for this engine that should release more of the motor's potential...
I never really saw it as a car suitable for modding, aside from the basic cosmetic work you've already done...

I was never really a fan of this shape, though it's a fine car to drive - and the VXR-8 version is bloody unbelievable... but...it's still a 4-door saloon car driven by sales reps and that's why it was cheap to buy and cheap to insure...it just all looks a bit...boring...

Caveat: if I were in the market for a new-ish saloon, I would be very hard pushed to choose this type of Vectra over a Mk 3 Mondy, esp the ST220, that's for certain...but the new, new Vectra beats the new Mondeo hands-down...
But if Opel collapses here in Germany which looks increasingly likely, it may all be moot...the German interior ministry are saying 'no' to bailouts for car-makers...

It does. I was tempted by a 2.0CDTi, and a 2.2CDTi, but the 1.9CDTi seemed much better. There's also a Caterman box which is supposed to be pretty good, and brings it to about 190bhp, as opposed to the 150bhp.

There's a few things I'd like to do, like 19" snowflakes, C/C'd grille etc, but as you said, it's not really a car to be modded. I got it mainly to carry things around in the big boot, and also have a baby due in October, so needed a 4 door, and this appealed to me much more than the Astra 4 door.
