Really strong image - I like the B&W and level of detail and I don't know how you dealt with the reflections but whatever you did it worked!! :clap:
 
Thanks for all the comments over the past weeks guys - love reading what everyone thinks of my efforts...... glad I decided to take part in the 52 week challenge...we (daughters and partner) really have fun each week thinking about what shot I could do...
 
I hope thats not your own fingerprint. The cops'll be scanning that right now and trying to pin you down for various unsolved crimes! But seriously - this is a nice shot - great dof and the lighting adds some nice depth. I think its well composed too :thumbs:. Between you and darkstar you've got the biometric angle sewn up!

Nicely done that's a great shot, with good lighting and very good DOF. I thought about doing just that as well :D.
 
Having been catching up with all the 52s I thought i had seen some great fingerprint detail, then i saw yours, fantastic stuff :thumbs:

Week 12 : Poverty



"Robert Raikes , 1735-1811, English philanthropist. In 1780 he organized a Sunday school , primarily for poor children, who were taught to read and to spell to enable them to read the Bible. The Raikes system spread rapidly through England and he became known as the founder of Sunday schools, although others had been concerned with similar undertakings. Raikes gave his project publicity in the Gloucester Journal, which he had inherited from his father."
 
Really good idea, and it's an interesting take on the theme. The plinth is spot on, and very legible even with the sun behind it, so I'm guessing flash was used ? I'm also going to guess it didn't quite reach the statue. I keep wanting to see a bit more detail in the statue itself.
 
Hi Kenny, still catching up after missing three weeks. I really like the relationships shot, it is a lovely capture and who ever said never work with children and animals....

The poverty shot is a lovely clear shot and I like the fact that the figure is a silhouette. There is an annoying little glare from the sun just by the date he died, but that really is a minor niggle on what is a very successful shot!

I seem to remember (vaguely!) Raikes from teacher training as being a leading figure in promoting education (through Sunday schools) for children who would have started work at 7 or 8 and never had any education. They were undoubtedly extremely poor, deprived children.

I like the shot, but would like the impossible - to see the statue more clearly and well as being able to read the citation. (That's education for you!!! :lol:)

Poverty - why don't they place statues facing the sun :bang::bang: the amount of times I've wished something was the other way round so that I didn't have to get up at dawn to get it (Not that I would :()

I like the interpretation though. :clap::clap:
 
Relationships - lovely capture of a lovely moment. There is a quote about cats that goes something like "A cat is there when you call her - if she doesn't have something better to do" - which I think is very true and you are very lucky if a cat thinks the best thing they could be doing is being with you!

Poverty - I agree that it's a shame you can't see more detail in the statue but I like the idea.
 
Week thirteen may have been a difficult week for everyone, but it certainly seems to have given rise to some of the best photographs yet IMHO!!!

I love this shot, great clarity, sense of movemnet and colours, super!!

Relationships: Lovely shot - somehow B&W suits it and the sheer joy (and love) on display is evident! Meets the theme brilliantly!

Poverty: Good spin, good shot! Love to have seen more detail in Mr Raikes himself but it still works and is also another bit of education for me :)

Up: Yep that does it! Well caught and really well framed! Timing was great :)

Right now the next 52 :D
