programme not responding.

Quite a few times of late when im using a programe anything from picassa, microsoft word, notepad etc etc it stops working for a few minutes and tells me its not responding then is business as usual.

Why does it do this cause it is sooooooooooooooo damned annoying.

Are you using Firefox because both i and my daughter have had similar problems that disappeared once we uninstalled Firefox having read about similar problems elsewhere on the net

How old is your PC...how much free RAM and disk do you have.
Do you also have wireless or are you connected by cable for network ?

My lappy is about 5 years old.

I have completly got rid of all the rubbish on it and did a disc clean up and defragged it yesterday.

I am going to put an external hard drive for my photos so that will keep it not so clogged up.

I guess you're using XP? The clean-up you describe can only achieve so much. When I used to run XP (and all before it) I would re-install the OS every six months or so. The transformation is quite remarkable - it's like getting a new machine. If you haven't reinstalled the OS in five years then you will be amazed at the difference it will make.
 
I am on vista.


Since the de frag it is a lot faster.

and not one programme not responding yet [cross fingers]
 
What I said about XP will probably apply to Vista as well. I don't do Vista - I moved from XP to something far better than Vista two years ago ;)

I would have thought a five year old lappy might be struggling with Vista and modern software anyway. If your clean-up and defrag works then I think you'll have to do this fairly frequently.

I THINK I JUST NEED TO KEEP THE MANTAINANCE REGULAR.

laptop is 5 yrs old, but O/s is vista ?
Hmm. Who did the installation. And since installation has the programme been working ?

as corrected above lappy is 3 years old and was bought brand new with vista on it and works fine.
