profoto b2

Not so silly I think!
I owned my 2x B2 head kit for a year now and payed itself
twice at least every month since!

I never look at the price of tools but at what they will bring
me in the execution of the projects I work on… this strictly
a business decision; and to invest in the Profoto system was,
I am pleased to admit, a great one… as it was to stay with all
my Nikon gear and even expanding both systems.

Yep and my Godox can do everything a B2 would do for me and a bit more so I get my money back even quicker and then some because I paid out less in the first instance - not seen anything on a B2 that says it is for me.

That is the nub of the discussion, it suits some but not others

Yep and my Godox can do everything a B2 would do for me and a bit more so I get my money back even quicker and then some because I paid out less in the first instance - not seen anything on a B2 that says it is for me.

Only if you're not following the conversation, I was responding to Mike when he said: "who think that because they have paid a lot they must have the best thing on the planet", I appreciate that the comment shouldn't have been taken too literally but one of the biggest reasons to avoid Profoto/Broncolor etc is cost.

I'm not suggesting they make the best equipment (I've already stated the B2 is an odd bird in that regard), everyone has different needs and preferences but let's also not pretend stuff like the Indra, S1 etc biggest pulls are the lower cost.

It kind of reminds me of the age old Mac vs PC debate...why on earth would anyone buy a Mac, when they can get a similar/higher spec PC for a fraction of the cost. Well, I suspect the majority of Mac users would say because it just works better. As a system, I'd say this relates quite well to the Profoto/Bronc vs other debate

I don't think the comparisons are being made on price alone. The comparison is of capabilities/suitability... and yes, for most price is always part of the equation.

Being more expensive doesn't make something "better." And being cheaper doesn't make something a better purchase. I do think you get a bit more with ProPhoto in general (compared to much cheaper brands). I personally just don't think the B2 is at the same level.

That's pretty impressive.

The B2s were only announced in March 2015. In fact almost a year ago to the day (give or take 3 or 4).

If you had read my posts #41 clever man, I meant that I've
been a brand user since three years and the B2 since less
than a year. The B2 fits in the system seamlessly and reliably.

Wow! I love how a relatively simple question posted on here turns into a full blown argument! However, the main issue for me when considering a kit purchase is this "Will it expand my creative possibilities?" along with ease of use this is my primary objective, cost is up there but not the main consideration. Thanks for your responses but there really doesn't seem to be anything for me on the market that matches the B2's, yes there are more powerful options but they don't have the same recycle times, ease of use or build quality. If there is something else that can do HSS with the ease of use and fast recycle times i would be happy to have a look at it but from peoples recommendations and my own research I am struggling to find anything. Thanks for all the responses and feel free to continue arguing amongst yourselves if thats what floats your boat!

Once again, AD360II... HSS, TTL, 1.2s recycle, it's as easy to use as anything I've ever run across, and it's probably better w/ larger modifiers than the B2 is.
My only complaint is the form factor, but I would probably feel the same about the B2.

I've also been wondering why they moulded the thing after a normal speed-light. I think it's time to change from swivelling head to swivelling mount. One could always develop a "hot-shoe cable". Ahh, I wish the world would listen more to me, I'd be a great benevolent dictator. I'm very modest too ;) :D

Recycle times are quite important for me, and I remember looking at the Godox when it came out and thinking it was crazily slow. I've just checked their site again and I can't find anything saying it recycles at that speed, even allowing for it not needing to be on full power to match the lower powered B2, or have I miss-read the specs somewhere?

Just out of curiosity, how do you fit something like an Octabox to the Godox, does it have a separate bracket for the modifier like the Quadra?

The bare spec of the ad360 looks slow, but using the Y cable it recycles on full power in 2.5 secs, and on half power near to a second.

And using the Y cable you can stack batteries, had a chat with a guy that had a chain of 8 of them, it recharged really fast and never ran out. Why he did it I dont know but it worked.

I pulled the specs off of FlashHavoc's review (normally quite accurate). I just tested and full power is right at 2.5sec w/ the Y cord.

There are many options to mount them. There's even speed rings for them (the ring mounts to a pivot head).
