I was just interested to find out how some of the professionals on here bulid their websites. I was considering using photium for my wedding site, as i already use it for my portfolio site. I really want it to be a business site with the function to add password protection to galleries and the ability to sell prints.

Was just wondering what methods others on here use?

I use Photoshelter as I felt it offer more scope for customisation than Photium etc.

does it really offer more scope as you suggest or is your post, as I suspect, just an opportunity to spam your referral link?

I use Photium www.dg-photography.co.uk which I think is excellent and has me on Google page 1 all the time now, but it looks a little 'basic' to me - though very useful too as I'm aiming to build a local Wedding Directory on it shortly

For my 'posh' site I use Bludomain www.dg-weddings.com which (partly as it's Flash based) I don't expect to gain as many hits but to showcase my work

I'll shortly be adding a Blog to my Bludomain one too as that seems to be a big driver of traffic

You really need to decide exactly what the site is supposed to do for you rather than just buy/build any old thing, then buy/build accordingly

HTH :)

I use wordpress, not pro IMO but can be made to look good and professional with alittle effort with editing

i use notepad... not toy make a website kits :)

I use Photium for my portrait stuff, it works well enough but I have been thinking of something with a bit more 'Jazz' recently.

I like the look of Bludomain but their reputation is shocking from what I've read on Google, it really put me off trying them.

Sorry, I didn't realise they weren't allowed, I'll consider myself well and truely told off. :rules: (FWIW the link also gives a discount to anyone who signs up)

I really do believe it offers a lot more customisation (have you checked it out?), especially as you can edit their themes as much or as little as you like and it is all geared up to getting your site as optimised as possible for search engines. The ecommerce back end behind it is great, you can set it to automatically price your images according to Photoquote, with them handling distribution of the digital files etc.

WordPress is pretty good, some of the themes available are brilliant for galleries, also, there are many plugins available.
Otherwise, I just design mine from scratch..

I've been trying to build a site with Wix.com it's free or costs from around £3.50 a month advert free.
