Product Photography lighting workshop?

Some time ago I held a 1 day workshop (on behalf of Lencarta). People brought along products that they wanted to learn how to light.

I think it went OK, and although the "people photography" lighting workshops have been far more popular, there have been a few people asking me whether I will do the product photography one again.

So, I'm canvassing opinion here.

If you would be interested in doing this, which specific lighting skills do you want to learn? (product photography is a massive subject, we can't cover everything in one day and need to prioritise)

What type of subjects would you bring along with you?

On the camera side, would we need to cover things like depth of field, diffraction limitation, perspective, exposure etc? Or would everyone have enough knowledge to forget about this side of things and concentrate just on the lighting?

Would you be happy to deal just with the lighting and photography side, or would you expect to spend some time on the PP side too?

If I do do it, it will probably be in my Bradford studio, and probably in September or October, on a Sunday.

I am a novice here and so hesitate to post but ....... would it help to show the sort of photograph that you could help people to produce/show some different types and ask which ones people want to be able to do?

*Sarah* and myself are interested especially given the subject and it being on a Sunday.

Types of subject? Glass would be interesting as would how to cope with shiny objects.

DoF, etc. vs Lighting? Lighting for us.

PP side? Some pointers relating to product photography specifics would be good but not too time intensive on the day

I take your point, but there is an enormous range of potential subject. The person above wants to photograph glass, from memory last time people brought along glass, shiny car performance bits, jewellery, clothing...

Basically we can do anything fairly small, some have specific, simple lighting and posing problems and only need a single light, others are far more complex.

Hi Garry, I'm definitely interested on this dependent on actual date, I'm quite happy to go with what other s bring along but I have been asked on a few occasions to photograph cakes, so I might see if I can bring one of them along.
