I thought I had mine all sorted out a few weeks ago but every time I look at it I seem to be changing it slightly. At this rate Im going to end up back to where I was in the beginning.

Don't overthink. That's my tip. I tell myself to "Do it and leave it. There will be time to improve on the next one."

Finishing something is part of the challenge with this for me. When I finish a zine it's like I have to say to myself "Enough. You're done with that now."

Of course I keep going back to it in my head, but I'm glad I finished it.

That's the way it goes when you have too much time. You start tinkering. That's why I leave everything to the last minute! :D

Seriously though, there comes a time in any project that you have to just stop and move on. Nothing's ever perfect, so it's pointless trying to perfect things. Doing that is another form of prevarication which stops you starting something new.

I completed mine last night, just pleased to get a finished product.
My first ever effort and rather basic, but at least I've got something to show and tell.
Got the envelopes and bought some inkjet labels, so think I'm ready to go.
Just waiting for final numbers now before sending the pdf off for printing.

Hope to go on from here and get a much better appreciation of Affinity Publisher.
Already got an idea if there is another round, hope so, its been fun.
Been a bit frustrating at times too, olď dog and new tricks springs to mind.

Arrived today and exactly as described. Many thanks.

Thats what Im going to have to do. Monday or Tuesday going to back to the original one and send it off to get printed.

I think another is almost a dead cert. Two a year seems a good number.

The Biannual TP zine swap.

As others say "Don't Overthink it", its very easy to keep polishing with little or no effect, once mine are done, I usually leave them for a few days and then re-visit, if something fundamental appears wrong, I'll make changes, otherwise I'll only correct typo's etc and leave the rest alone.

Just one more week to commit for those that haven't yet or for any lurkers!

Alex & Colin haven't posted/been seen for a while and Steg hasn't been on since Feb so these are the only three that might not be aware. Everyone else has signed up. 14 by my count (post 379 above)

My suggestion would be for anyone missing the sign up deadline to post if they have a zine to exchange and deal individually with people who want to exchange, much like the newcomers did at the beginning of this thread.

That's a good take up rate.
If you got that many potentials for a photo meet you would be lucky if 5 turned up.

Makes sense. I reckon I just going back to the first edition I have.

I was toying with the idea of offering a "meet up" to exchange the next one which will probably finish summer . Quite a few of us are "up north". Was thinking of maybe picking a Saturday and a nice location in the NW for a meetup for lunch, zine discussion, and perhaps some photography in the afternoon?

It'd probably rain though... Also it'd probably be a bit too close to the "all clear" we may or may not get in June...

Count me in, whenever it happens.

All the pictures are in place but I'm overthinking it now and can't stop meddling!

Can anyone enlighten me as to how to export a PDF of the whole zine from Affinity to Mixam please?

Got my test prints back. Very pleased and surprised the colours look correct [emoji4]

Is there a button to order a test print via Mixam? Not quite ready to order still but almost there.

It's tucked away.

In Publisher: File>Export then choose pdf. I didn't change any of the settings (but mine is B&W again so I didn't mess with colour)

In Mixam, choose "booklet" and all the preferences before adding to your cart. Then go into your cart, and click "proceed and upload files". On the next screen there's an "upload files" button. Click that, add your pdf exported in step 1 above, then go make a cuppa because it takes ages.

As Dave said to me, the previre it gives you when it's finished is a good measure for making sure everything is ok before you commit to ordering.

In order to avoid any hassle, make sure your pdf has a page count divisible by 4.

If in colour make sure you are outputting in CMYK. Other than that this is all I do.

Thanks Ian and Dave.

There has been mention of meeting up sometime and after 17th May it seems that we may be allowed to do that, actually we could probably do it now as it seems unlikely that more than 6 people would be interested, so is there any interest?

That said, I suspect my zine is going to be a bit disappointing reading some of the above so perhaps we should meet before people see my effort :) and that is even assuming I get it done, I've printed six but I am running out of ink and there doesn't seem to be any in stock anywhere in the UK (a brexit/covid car crash I am told), I've got some on back-order so fingers crossed.

If I'm interested depends on where and when.

It's a when & where for me too.

You joke, but we went to the Lake District for the day last Saturday o_O
Booked a self catering place and they behaved like the virus had never existed, Covid safe my arse.
Turned round and went home again, got a refund with veiled threats of informing the Cottage company and crap reviews.
497 mile round trip and sixty quid in petrol, no more Northern excursions for me.

I doubt that kind of attitude is restricted to Northerners. :(

I couldn’t make a Sat,Sun or Mon meet as these make my 3 day working week

Obviously you are all welcome to come up here for a day out in Cumbria or the Dales (except @tijuana taxi ;) ) but its probably a bit far for most. There seems to be quite a few folks knocking out zines in Cheshire, I guess there is nothing else to do there :) , so I'd be prepared to venture south of Manchester somewhere.

For me getting a date pinned down is the thing, I don't mind travelling, I might be able to do some Fridays but weekends are better, I suppose it depends how long after the 17th of May people want to wait.

All joking aside I travel a lot in normal times.
Once I have had my second jab I'm up for a day out.
Been as far as Ribblehead in a day, usually go by train though.
Depending where you settle (been there too) on I might see you there.

I'll be posting the address list out to everyone on Monday. I think we're done tbh - 14 participants. I was just holding on for Colin & Alex who haven't been on since I made the "commit plz" post.

But yes. You may now extricate your digit.

Are we going to have a post date. As in we all aim to post on the same day?
