Produce and share a Zine - do something with your photos!

Apparently Scribus and other DTP software output CMYK PDFs if you select to output for print, so it might depend how you created the PDF in the first place.

This is what I'd assumed would be the default for DTP software. (y)

BTW, just a general note, this isn't a film only thing, digital is welcome too.

Good job too! :D

I'd love to have a go at this but just don't know where to start.
It's meant to be as home-brew as you like, print some photos (or get some printed at Asda) stick them on some paper and then photocopy them and fold up into a few zines - no need for anything fancy :-)

So, what we gonna do?

There are 5 people up for this at the last count and I have to say I am tempted to get an order in for my zine, there is no cost saving under about 20 copies and it's unlikely that we will get a sudden rush over the next month. I can see the printing companies shutting down fairly soon, businesses won't be ordering and their staff will be looking after kids or self-isolating.

I'm ready to order at the drop of a hat.

Mine's done!

OK, so I suggest we stick to original dates, I can't see the Royal Mail stopping the postal service, but get things printed ASAP just in case.

Five I guess if @flook999 is still playing but Mixam at least seem to charge the same price for up to about 20 prints, I guess postage might be higher for 20 rather than 5.

Sorry Allan, missed you off the list in post #138 so we have

@Harlequin565
@Ed Sutton
@flook999
@Mr Perceptive
@Allan.H
and me

That's a minimum of 6, so personally I'll be getting at least 10 printed to allow for spilling coffee on a couple and keeping a couple for myself.

Well, I thought I had got it all ready to go so I printed a draft and it turns out that I had made a bit of a mess of the Scribus template pages, it looked OK on screen but just would not print correctly and what a faff to get it sorted out. That was yesterday afternoon gone. I left it a day and had another review of it and it looked OK so mine is now ordered via Mixam. Fingers crossed :-)

Have just received my 10 copies from Doxdirect, :banana:
I know it’s a difficult time for everyone but how is everyone else getting on with it and what is the plan for posting them out.

Well I'm assuming the Royal Mail will keep going so was going to stick to the original date of posting them out on the 24th or April. I'm still waiting for mine, fingers crossed that Mixam get them out in the next day or two, if not I have a back-up plan.

I think reading the posts above everyone else is ready to go so I'll give it a few days and then perhaps I'll message those involved and we can share addresses. Feel free to remind me by the weekend if I haven't got my act together :-)

I'm not part of this, but very interested in producing Zines so following the thread.

However, it may be of interest that Serif are selling Affinity Publisher for half price (£24) at the moment.

https://affinity.serif.com/en-gb/publisher/

If everyone already knows, my apologies, but it seems like a very good DTP, at a very good price. And yes I bought a copy after reading a few reviews, but not yet used it.

Thanks for the heads-up that looks very tempting. I've had issues with both Scribus (free) and MS Publisher and I had a copy of Serif PagePlus about 20-odd years ago so a bit of nostalgia, not that it's the same product

I'd be interested to hear what this is like. Scribus does my head in at times!
