Looking for some guidance on getting football photos ready for printing and/or displaying on website.

Do you have two copies, one for selling/print and one for displaying on your website.

Mine will be mainly for just displaying on my website and wanted to get guidance on optimizing the photos, something like below.

Matbe for print
  1. Crop
  2. Tweak

And for web
  1. Crop
  2. Tweak
  3. Resize
  4. Save for Web

What steps do you do?
What size do you crop?
If you resize, What size (roughly)?

after processing a few hundred football shots yesterday here's what I do.

(all shots are imported into lightroom and duds deleted etc)

1. straighten horizon if needed
2. Crop to 8x6
3. Boost contrast a bit
4. export small jpg with watermark for viewing on the web

My process is similar to the above:

Straighten, crop, export to a processed folder then do a batch resize/rename and save for web. I resize to 800 pixels.

then do a batch resize/rename and save for web. I resize to 800 pixels.

Always remember to keep the same name for the web as you do on your HD.. ie dont rename for web (unless you have a better plan?) thousands of pictures later somebody wants to buy a copy of X picture how ya gonna find it unless its named the same?

The software you use will determine how fast you can do the job.. if itsd a one off no problem.. but if like me your putting galleries on every week then you need short cuts or automated methods..

I make a seperate set for uploading onto the web with a watermark accross... but I then delete them off my HD once uploaded as theres no point keeping.. they take up space and its easy to make another set if the web ones get lost soemhow.. which is rare

Someone wants to buy one of mine? Huh? Where!!! Lol.

That is a very good point! I hadn't actually thought of that but in my processed folder, I have the 2 versions - cropped and straightened and then the small versions. And as there's not that many, I suppose as it stands, if that situation arose, then I'd have to go by the description and player name. But thanks Tony, I'll have a rethink about my process :)
