Problems with Vaio/Sony

Back in dec 2011 I purchased a customised Vaio off the Sony website. Within 10 months it developed a fault which required it sending back for repair and they replaced the motherboard and a few other items. It then became faulty again within six months for the same faults and again one of the parts replaced was the motherboard. At the time I asked for a refund but this was refused however, I was told via email that if the machine developed any faults for which it had previously been repaired I would then be eligible for a refund.

Well as you guessed it has become faulty again however, this time around the repair department have been unable to diagnose some of the issues which I reported. However they did identify one issue which was was previously addressed back in march.

Sony have now accepted my request for a refund but the initial figure I have been offered is £700 shy of the original purchase price of £1176.00. When I disputed this they said that the way they work it out is based on the time I have had use of the machine plus how long it has been in for repair. All of these issues I have disputed because I bought the machine in good faith the fact it has become faulty is not my issue and I should not have to suffer financially because of it.

Anyone ever experienced this before is this even legally right? The machine is still within warranty until the end of the year.
 
Not necessarily have friends who have no issues and my previous Vaio gave fault free service for 6 years. Plus the apple equivalent is 1,000 more. Anyway got it settled and only lost 19% on original price.
 
From experience in my old job, when vaio's are good, they are good, but we occasionally had some problem-childs and they where a pain in the ass.
