Ok, haven't had a response to my question in the Landscape meet thread so I thought I'd open up to a wider audience.

The two photos I posted there look nothing like what they did on my computer. They have lost all the colour and just look dark and underexposed.

I thought it was something to do with Photobucket so I opened a Flickr account and its done exactly the same thing.

Please can someone tell me what is going wrong and is there somewhere I can host my photos without losing the quality.

Thanks

Andrea

Most likely you are shooting in or saving as Adobe RGB. For web browsing you need to save as sRGB.

I use both of these sites and have never had a problem, would it be possible to send me the good 1 by e-mail give me a link to the bad quality 1?

What colour space are you saving your pics in? The likes of Lightroom automatically save to AdobeRGB, however Flickr works with sRGB, uploading files saved in the Adobe format causes them to lose all their colour and look washed out...

Thanks for the replies so far. I'll have to check, I sent them from Lightroom to Photoshop so it could be as easy as I'm saving them with the wrong info.

I'll have another try tonight.

I hope its something so simple.

Thanks all.

Andrea

Check your settings when you click on 'Open in Photoshop' from Lightroom. Most likely this is set to Adobe RGB...

I've always wondered this my self. I shoot and process in Adobe RGB, so have I got this clear, all I need to do after processing and before saving is to swithc to sRGB, or do I need to process in sRGB?

It depends on your workflow. If you shoot RAW and process in Lightroom it doesn't matter. The final move is to export as JPEG so choose your colour space there.

Personally if I follow up edit in Photoshop I usually export as TIFF or PSD in Adobe. Save the changes so they are picked up in Lightroom and then export, again as required in sRGB or Adobe.

It's been said on here before. If you need to ask you should use sRGB.

The only time I use Adobe RGB is when I export to be printed by my local pro printer. And that's because he told me to! Whether I can see the difference with the wider gamut in a print is a different question  :)
