Need to pick the brains of the computer buffs amongst you in here. Quite a simple question and hoping for a just as simple answer.

Tried to install 16 Gb of RAM in the PC - nope, dead as a doornail (PC won't start up at all, not even the boot up sequence). But, put the original 4 Gb sticks back in and it's all fine (yes, made sure they were well seated in, etc, etc). Apparently changing voltage settings in the BIOS may solve it but I don't have that option in this PC's BIOS menu.

Yours hopefully, The Cloud Master.

motherboard make and model, as well as the memory make and model please :)

also how many sticks are you installing as the 16gb?

Hi, sorry about the delay.

The mother board in question is a H-IG41 uATX and it only has two slots for RAM (old one had 2 gb per slot, now trying with 8gb per slot).

The new memory are hynix DDR3 SDRAM 1333 MHz DDR3-1333/PC3-10600 ECC 8gb. The old one, made by Kinston has the exact same specs, only they are 2gb each.

It does seem that the motherboard can only support 4Gb max. I should have done my homework and check the full specs of the motherboard than just checking the specs of the RAM sticks and hoping for the best.

Oh well, I live and learn. :D

Indeed. :D I've emailed the seller to see if I could get a refund. His feedback seems to be very good for that kind of thing. :) (I got it on eBay).

Naaaa, it is quite an "old" PC (got it in 2007, just as Vista was coming out), thought I'd eak a bit of life into it but no, the item in question has already been posted back to whence it came from as the seller is happy to refund me (its a business firm rather than as a private seller).
I'd be better off saving up and buying a new and up to date PC in a couple of years time rather than faff about with installing a new motherboard in what is a tired and old-looking tower. I'd then have to get a new processor and probably a replacement PSU to cope with all the extra wattage :D At least as things stand, it all still works for now.
But thanks for all the replies anyway, I have come out a wiser person after I have been taught a lesson.

Update: A bit of good news, where I have sent the RAM sticks back to the seller, I've just this minute got the refund, the only thing I've lost out on is £2 postage but I'll let that slide. :D

Next time I want to upgrade something, I will do my research properly, and then research some more but at least I've learnt my lesson.

Good news :)
