Hi,

I've been lurking on here for a while, but this is my first post and predictably, I'm asking for help with a problem!

I have been having difficulty downloading images both from my own EOS 5D Mk1 and my wife's IXUS 950IS compact.

The 5D has about 500 images, mainly JPEGs on a Sandisk Ultra 4Gb CF card. When I attempt to download, the process commences until the computer 'stalls' at 159 images. I then get an error message telling me that the camera is busy.

The compact has a problem with one particular card. When I try to download, the camera is not recognised by the computer and 'communication error' appears on the camera screen. All other cards work perfectly.

On the assumption that this is a corrupted card, is there anything I can do to retrieve the images. The images dfisplay perfectly on the camera screen.

I should add that I have tried two computers and a variety of applications with the same result.

Thanks very much in anticipation of your assistance.

Hi, Get a card reader, faster and easier than hooking up different cameras, get one that has options to read different cards, they are not expensive.

Hi

As Russell says, I'd get a multi card reader - one that takes the CF card from your 5D and the SD ? card from the compact.

Saves any problem with the camera not being able to keep up with the download size, also you don't have to worry about there being enough battery life for the download.

Hope this helps and you manage to download your images...

Hi - I've had a similar problem downloading my wife's picture of her new IXUS 500 HS. Connecting the camera to PC with USB cable and running the Canon s/w works fine but if I take out the microSD card, use an adapter and put it in the SD card slot on the PC, I can't see any images. The CF card from my EOS 400D works fine like this. When away, I use my Android tablet with a card reader and OTG cable to save photos on the tablet. I wanted to do the same for the IXUS but this doesn't work either.

Are Canon using a strange file format on this product? Can't understand why the PC doesn't just see the card as a memory device.

Andy, at a guess, your card reader is fairly old and can't read SDHC (which includes microSDHC) cards.
