I have been using the Yongnuo CTR301P & YN-04 II triggers with my 580EXII. I'm able to trigger the 580EXII 100% of the time within 15ft range.

Recently, I bought a Yongnuo YN560. Within 6ft range, I'm able to trigger the YN560 100% of the time. However, beyond that, it seems like a matter of luck to get it triggered.

I did a search online and could not find related topics. Is this common or did I buy a lemon?

15ft even on a good day? That's total rubbish for a radio trigger.

Try some fresh batteries or get a better lemon. Yongnuo RF-602 - over 100m for me, not even a hint of lemon

I can live with 15ft, I haven't done any work that need to go beyond that range.

I'm wondering about the flash, not so much the trigger.

I have no problems with my Yongnao flashgun, I'd consider replacing the batteries in both the flashgun and receiver.

You could also try turning off any wi-fi products in your house as, as wierd as it sounds, they could be using conflicting channels.

Sounds about right for a CTR-301, I've heard of people only getting 4ft range with them....
