Hi everyone, i hope someone might be able to put me out of my misery with my speedlight. i bought a TTL off camera flash cord from Jessops to use with my SB600. I have set it all up as should be (attached to camera hotshoe and to speedlight). i have switched the camera on first then my flashgun (as told by jessops) but i cant get it to work! i have gone through my Nikon D70 user manual and followed steps within the camera menu to change the mode to TTL. This didnt work, i then tried Manual still didnt work, i then tried Commander, to no avail, ive tried all the settings and changed the flashgun from TTL to manual etc etc! am i missing something because i cant work it out! i even took the cord off the camera and gun, gave both ends a wipe and rub and it worked, but then i had to answer the door and came back and it has stopped working!! does this sound like a problem with the cable or is it a simple setting that i am missing? please help as i need it tomorrow morning? thank you

i'm wondering if your flash has an auto sleep feature

my canon 430x goes to sleep if not played with for a minute.
no idea about nikon, just a wild stab in the dark, i hope you get it sorted :)

My Sb 600 does that also

it goes onto stand-by after a bit. when i came back from the butcher call it had gone onto standbye and then it stopped working. the speedlight works on the camera fine so im not sure what it is! ive checked the cable box and it does have a "nikon" sticker on it.

You can switch the feature off in the SB-600 quite easily :)

The chord should work with the flash in any mode, make sure you have the lock on at the hotshoe end - sometimes something as minor as that can stop it from working...

guys - just to say thanks a lot, Bruce sent me a link to ken rockwell tutorial on how to set it up remotely without the cable and it WORKS!! im so chuffed, thank you so much. il be taking the cable back to J's tomorrow for refund as i think the lock might be faulty and i now dont need it now! i can concentrate on tomorrows shoot and il post some images for your C&C....if thats ok. cheers

Do you know how you can stop a 430EX doing this?
