hi all, was at knockhill at the weekend at the touring cars and everything was working fine then i decided to do a bit of panning and dropped my shutter speed and turned my aperture up.... the results were a pure white image. After playing about for a while i discovered that the camera was showing the aperture changing however the aperture on lens was actually stuck at the same size all the time, i guess it is about 3.5ish as when i set the camera to f3.5 the metering is about right. I tried a different lens on the camera and it worked fine so it is definately a problem with the lens.

Just wondered if any of you have had the same problem and if you have is it easily fixed?

I am using the lens on an eos 400d btw.

Thanks a million in advance

Ryan

Stuck aperture blades, easy fix for Sigma UK.

I had an intermittent fault like that on mine. Back to Sigma, £65 (IIRC) for a fix and clean and it was back in about 10 days.

thanks dod, the lens has now been sent to sigma and its still in warranty so that should save me 65 quid. I am thinking of asking for an extended warranty when it comes back repaired in case theproblem persists, does anyone know is there much chance of getting this?

thanks,
Ryan

You should be able to register it on the Sigma UK website to get the three year cover

i had this problem for quite a while... problem started around mid February... went back to Sigma 4 times before it was sorted properly! finally had it back all working again around june... this resulted in me having to buy A Canon 70-200 f/4L as a back up lens which i now love.

Hope yours gets sorted first time!

Cheers,

Thanks very much for the advice, you guys have the answer to everything :)
cheers,
Ryan

got the lens back from sigma today, reciept says "no fault found" and seems like its working ok. Cant help thinking this will be an repeat of Ryan S 's experience:(

My bigma had the same/similar problem.Sigma replaced the interuptor (I think), took a fair bit of time waiting for the part from Japan but it was a successful repair.

I hope not... was a real pain in the neck... i had mine back and i took a few pics with it just one shot and seemed fine, but the first time i used it shooting ralying again after less than 20 - 30 shots it was dead again... they said they had replaced the aperture blades.

Hope you have better luck than me,

Cheers,
Ryan.
