Problem with my Canon 17-85mm IS

Hopefully this is the right section to post in! Tell me if not.

I keep getting a communication error 01 with this lens and my 450D. It *seems* more prevalent when outside and in colder temperatures.

I've turned off stabilisation and auto focus, but to no avail.

Any ideas? If not, can anyone recommend a good repair shop in the Manchester area?

Common fault with these is the ribbon connector breaking. Sounds like it could be this. Try cleaning contacts etc first though.

Thanks for that. I tried the 'eraser trick' on the contacts, but there's no difference. The contacts look clean and fine.

Will contact those repair places, see what they can tell me in terms of cost to fix.
