So, last night was shooting with a 5d using Interfit lights and a cheap ebay trigger...

Got it all set up properly, did a few test shots - everything worked fine (setting were initally 1/250, f11 I think... can't quite remember)

Took a few shots then had one with a line across the photo and everything under it dark, immediate thought was that maybe the shutter speed's too high so dropped it down to 1/125 but then had the same problem occurring intermittently with different amounts of dark area on the pictures.

By this point a little worried since I hadn't used the 5d with studio lights before, so tried with a 50d instead. Worked fine...until about 5 shots in when the same thing started happening again.

A solution came with dumping the trigger and using a sync lead instead - so Im thinking the problems must have been down to the trigger, anyone had the same problem?

Just want to put my mind at ease that the cameras are ok!!

Try some new batteries in the trigger. If it works alright with a lead it's got to be the triggers at fault.

sounds like flat batteries in the trigger - making response times too slow
the wait while you changed camera allowed them to recover - for a bit
try changing the batteries - might be transmitter or receiver

damn too slow AGAIN!

It is a sync problem and given that it went as soon as the "cheap" triggers were taken out of the system, it does look like they are the culprit.

I suspect that the cameras are both fine.

So we're agreed, cheap triggers (+ failing batteries) = me looking silly with clients...

Thanks folks!!

...now where's that link to pocket wizards gone?! ;)

Do the Interfits work off an IR trigger as well. An IR trigger may be a bit cheaper than a set of PW's

don't some studio lights synch at 1/60th

tried i with a silly slow shutter and then walked it up to see where it ceases to be reliable?

Ebay triggers are almost guaranteed do that without the need for duff batteries :shake:
