Problem with focus point

My Nikon D5200 seems to have a problem with the focus point. When looking at the square focus point through the viewfinder, there appears to be another one "ghosting" it. It happens no matter where I move the focus point. It's difficult to describe it properly but hopefully I've made sense! Otherwise the camera is behaving fine and still seems to take pictures fine. Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

It sounds as if the focusing screen may have become slightly mis aligned? You haven't tried to clean it have you?

Does the camera have diopter adjustment?
Maybe it's off?

Have you got the '3-D' tracking active? Might be that?

Thanks for the replies.

I've tried the diopter and it doesn't make any difference.
3D tracking is also turned off.
The focus screen sounds plausible. I haven't tried to clean the camera but a good while before the problem started i dropped the camera but managed to use my foot to break it's fall. Perhaps that was the cause? If it is the focus screen do you have any idea of the cost to fix it?
