Got a weird one here. I usually use the *button on the back as the focus button. But swapped it the other day to the traditional half press on the shutter (hands very cold at Rugby).
Using the * focus method in AV Mode everything is normal
Using the shutter button 1st image is fine, 2nd image the shutter speed drops from 800/1000th to 125th. Causing the 2nd frame to be completely over exposed.
I've copied the settings from my 2nd camera so to eliminate something in one of the menus being turned off/on and still get the same problem.

Anyone any ideas. Before it gets boxed up and sent to Canon again.

you haven't got aggressive exposure bracketing going on?

LOL - That is exactly what its doing.

Just had a spool through all the Custom Function menus, again. Checking menu by menu with my other camera. I've got to Custom Menu 18 "Switch to registered AF point" I've set it to the same as the other camera and it seems ok now.

Don't think its bracketing. Although have never heard of Aggressive bracketing. As using back button focus everything is fine. Its only when using the shutter button to focus that the problem arises.

what I meant was exposure bracketing, but with extreme values!
but if it's sorted now, then kinda doesn't matter any more

good luck
do report back let us know how it went
what sort of job?

one sure way to correct is do a reset to factory defaults

Factory default settings. Still got the same snag.

doing my head in now. Looks like a trip to Canon
