Hi All,

I'm having problems with viewing some RAW files on CS5 (ACR 6.3). The operative word here is 'some' as I could take a batch of photos using the same settings, 95% are viewable and a handful unviewable on RAW. However they are all viewable in camera.

I've taken a screenshot below as an example

I was worried that it might be a CF card problem but it can't be an issue if I'm able to view in camera?

I'm using a Nikon D700.

The camera views the imbedded jpeg, the raw itself might be corupt, have you tried re-downloading the images preferably with a different card reader, also how do the files sizes compare are they big differences?

Ok this is a new development.

Whilst in Bridge, I right click on the offending files and select "Purge Cache for Selection". What happens is that I've managed to 'recover' a few images, but with the others, the preview comes up temporarily before going back to a blank preview.

The preview may be the embedded jpeg showing up briefly, can you open them in anything else?, how do they show up in mini bridge inside CS5?

As has been said, it sounds like the RAW files have corrupted.

What type of CF card did you use? I've had the same thing happen with MyMemory CF cards (3-4 years ago) in the past which is why I stick to Sandisk now.

There is a free program called Preview Extractor which can, as it says, extracts the preview Jpeg on some Nikon RAW files. I used to use it a lot. It may be a basic Jpeg, but at least you get an image which you may not be able to get from the RAW file.

I'm using Transcend cards which I got from Amazon (directly from them). I'm going to troubleshoot by changing the card and the reader and see if that helps.

I've figured the problem - dodgy card reader. I transfer files directly from camera to computer and the files are fine! Phew
