Hello peeps,

Hope this is in the right place? Looking for a bit of help, I have recently bought a Canon EOS 450D, I have taken a few pictures, couple in raw, couple Raw + L and some just L

Problem I am having is my Photoshop says it cannot open the RAW file, but when I open the JPG it opens in RAW mode in Photoshop with a Triangle with Explanation mark in it flashing a couple of times in top corner.

The photos always open really dark too, like the settings have been adjusted?

Thanks for your time, hopefully someone can help me! lol

Mike, which version of Photoshop ? is it? and what version of Camera Raw ?

if you goto the help item on the top right hand side of the photoshop screen then pick update - you should get the updates required to open raw files.

It is Photoshop CS3 ?

Version 10.0

I tried downloading the update from their website before, I got the same message as I get when I try to open a RAW image lol!

Tried Re-installing also, still no luck!

Just weird Photoshop is opening JPG in RAW mode :S

And sorry I couldn't tell you what rew version it is?

The files are: Canon RAW File (CR2) (.CR2)

I think for the 450d you need ACR 4.5. Grab the update from here. There is an option in file handling I think it is to have PS open the jpg's in Camera Raw.

Thanks for all your help people!

I have sussed it!

Managed to get the 4.5 installed manually, then found the option "Prefer Adobe Camera RAW for JPEG" it was ticked :cuckoo:

Cheers peeps!

I'm sure I will be bugging you all for more help soon! lol

Still get a little yellow Triangle with Explanation mark in it flash up couple times when first open the image in RAW though, is this normal? :S

Mine always does it... I think it's to do with indicating that it's refreshing the image/histogram. I have an old slow puter though.

Yep the flashing triange is just to tell you that it is still rendering the raw image. :)

If you mean its opening jpgs in raw mode and you want to stop it doing that, Try opening your jpg "Open As" and change the file extention to jpg, sounds like it just opening up from your last setting which you tried and that could have been a Raw file, after that it should just open them as jpgs normally, also as said get the latest raw update and you should be able to open Raw then

Cheers peeps!

Cheers mate, sorted it now, as I said above, found the option "Prefer Adobe Camera RAW for JPEG" which was ticked so it was always opening them in RAW, how it got like that I don't know lol
