Problem getting photos off of CF card

As usual connected 5dmk3 to the PC to download photos and it got as far as the first image then hung.

Tried with the memory card in two different card readers same problem.

I can still view the images on the camera playback - but there are 4 images at the beginning which says something along the lines of unrecognised format.

I delete these incamera, but they continue to return.

Any ideas how I can retrieve these RAW files
 
You could try running an image recovery program to see if this can recover the data, but it does sound as though the images have been corrupted for some reason. It may be that the CF card has developed some bad sectors and the can't be read. If these images are not important I'd simply format the card to remove them. However having a card that for some reasons has corrupt images on worries me. I have had a similar situation twice in the last 10 years. both times I managed to recover the images , using a data recovery company. Personally I wouldn't trust that card again. When this happened to me both cards went in the bin.
 
Havent had this happen for many a long year - just tried one last time and it let me copy and paste the images across, just lost the first 4 or 5 not too critical at all.

The card had only been used ok yesterday and reformatted - just shows how you cannot trust them indefinitely - what was frustrating initially was seeing the photos on the camera playback you would have thought corruption would have stopped that

Card now jettisoned into bin
