Hi

I have a set of 12 photos that have been stacked, in PS I have them all highlighted and when I goto to auto-align them it seems to crash my software and becomes unresponsive. I have tried this on my windows Laptop and M1 iMac, the images are taken on a z7ii at 45mp. I have left both machines running for around 2 to 3 hours and no progress just a spinning icon!

It might be worth converting the files to tiff or dng and scaling them down to a few MB and then trying to align the stack

Not really helpful I know, but I use affinity photo for stacking / aligning,
it beats the hell out of PS, for speed and quality.
Its back on special offer at £23:99.
That's what I paid, and bought it for that specific reason, after several recommendations here.

edit, its quite a good clone of PS too.

I have just stacked 18 x 30mp images using a 4 year old MacBook Pro with 8gb of RAM and the Auto-Align took about 2-3 minutes.

I wonder what the issue is with then, my laptop is an 11th gen i7 with 32GB ram and the M1 iMac has typically no issues either editing anything

Yep me too affinity is excellent for stacking and even copes when I don’t manage to hold the camera steady enough while taking the shots, it aligns the images automatically

I’m not sure if you have tried but I always convert to a tiff before running the stack of images
my M1 Mac does a stack of a dozen R5 files in affinity in few minutes at most

I have tried them on affinity, it processes them and seems to work then right near the end it crashes the software, really strange how I can not stack them with 2 different software and other people don't have any issues!

Another shout out for Affinity stacking - it does a damned good job, far better than PS did and better than Helicon

Have you tried, just as an experiment, stacking say half of them? My thinking is that possibly one of the files is corrupted in some way and might be causing problems

I will try again Tomorrow, I will try 5 first and see what happens

Very curious indeed, possibly as T'other said maybe there is a corrupt file or two in there somewhere?
Other than that, I'm at a loss.
