there's alsorts Tom i was just going down the cheapest road, Im happy with mine.

you got a good buy there

I was lucky I was given all my Cokin P 6 filters and holders rings from Russell, oh and Mark (whiteflier gave me a 58mm ring) also Mrgas gave me a holder and hood, when I was first starting out with filters, nice folks on TP  while Im on about it I was the luckiest member on here that Andy gave me a gimbal head free for my bird photography, how lucky is that, just love TP Ive even been given free a full studio set up lights, stands soft boxes umbrellas

Dont think Ive bought anything but my cams and lenses :D

You're a lucky guy. I think my best option is to buy the stuff you have recommended me, if I feel I'm not getting on with them, I'll jump ship. They're not expensive, and you have some amazing pictures with. I was twitter slaking you earlier and I had a quick browse. Now, I need to befriend some people on here, everybody loves a freebie. ;) Haha.

What price did you pay? I hope you don't mind me asking.

£30 for 9 rings and cokin compatible filter holder and that incs an ND8, 4, 2 and 3 grads I think.

I suspect I might swap the filters if I get going, just didnt want to be limited to one lens so got the one with 9 different sizes.

I have found that with my old sony A230, I couldn't tell the difference between images taken with my (rather cheap) UV filter and those taken without. With my newer A580, the images are definitely softer taken with the filter in place. It almost looks like the camera has trouble focussing accurately with the filter on. When I bought the A580 I automatically put the filter on the kit lens and was disappointed with the photos is took. The pictures from my 230 looked sharper. I played with the settings on the A580 and found that it the autofocus worked really well in live view mode, using contrast detection; it was bit off usually using phase detection. I assumed that meant a problem with the camera (phase detect sensors misaligned) but as soon as I took the filter off, everything was perfect.

Would love to know if anyone can explain.

Have you got a link to it as some only have the one slot ie for one filter at a time, which is not so good
