Audio Slideshow: Photos compete for the Prix Pictet

A major new global prize celebrating the work of both professional and amateur photographers has been awarded in Paris.

The Prix Pictet is the first competition of its type to focus on the global issue of 'sustainability' - and, this year in particular, on water.

The winner of 100,000 Swiss francs (£53,000) is the Canadian photographer Benoit Aquim.

just watched that, about to post it too!

I was underwhelmed by most of the shortlisted entries, normally these competitions leave me standing and staring in awe but most seemed to be photojournalistic shots, where you could only have taken those shots if you had access to these places on earth, New Orleans for example.

That makes them worse than a studio shot? Journalistic photos are to be expected given the theme, no? :shrug:

What the hell, so the guys that took the shots were there, big deal, good for them - surely it's the image that counts.
I liked them !
