PRIVATE PARKING TICKETS DONT PAY THEM and SIGN THE E-PETITION PLEASE

Scam in my book. these are ruthless companies. Don't pay!!!

I'm not going to get into the morals of not paying for parking, but at the end of the day these companies are used generally by commercial organisations who's only goal is to make as much money as possible. As such, you can't compare this to parking on a private individuals land or driveway.

As a side note, my GF was phoned by a ferry company to say there was an urgent package for her at the port that had just come off a ferry and could she come to collect it. She went in, parked in front of their office collected the package and left within 5 minutes, only she didn't pay to 'park' as she wasnt staying or "parking" in the traditional sense. Needless to say one of these scam company's then wrote to her with a pic of her car trying to charge her £100 for the privilege of passing through ( at the request of the landowner no less!)

Needless to say it went in the bin.

Jim - There is a massive difference between car park abuse and been the victim of a PPC.

It would fail miserable in court imho if it got there in the first place.

Frankly, I have more chance of becoming Pope than that petition does of getting the 100,000 names required for consideration for a debate.

Well I know of a Pope job that's just become available.....

There's at least one shopping area here with a very good scheme. It charges £1 for up to 2 hours (and more for longer, obviously!) and there's a counterfoil which gains you a refund of the parking charge in at least one of the shops when you spend over a tenner. Free parking for genuine customers and other parkers pay.

I like the idea, but what about a similar situation like just before Christmas at the local Matalan.

We were looking for a particular suitcase so we popped in. Similar car park, pay a few quid then get it refunded if spending over a certain amount.
Go into Matalan, they didn't have the suitcases we want....We're out of pocket for being genuine visitors.

Matalan are one of the shops in the development that runs the refund scheme, along with the Range and a bowling alley. The fee at the car park is actually cheaper than others nearby and it's a reasonably easy walk up into town. It's unfortunate that you picked a day when they had run out of something and ended up out of pocket but I've never found myself unable to spend enough to get the parking refund! From memory, the fee for an hour is only £1 so not a huge loss but galling if you'd made a special trip, I'm sure.

Did you manage to make the most of your parking or was it a total write off?

I didn't pay...I sent the wife in to check for the suitcases while I stood next to the car :p
I described my situation but was being hypothetical with regards to being out of pocket :)

I booked a "Stay and Park" deal with a large hotel chain at Glasgow Airport.. Pay for one night and car gets parked up for a fortnight in a yard a short drive away. All booked through the hotel. On arrival the wife went into book in while I got the cases and stuff sorted out. When she came back she said that the receptionist suggested that we take the car to the yard that night, to save the hassle in the morning. I emptied the car, went to the yard. payed the additional night to park and enjoyed my fortnight in Florida..

On my return home I found an invoice for £100 from Parking eye, for parking in the hotel car park for 31 mins. I contacted the hotel and after explaining the situation he said he would get it cancelled. 10 days later another invoice through the door.. Will I pay?? No way..

It's an invoice - Not a fine. Ignore it.

there is no legal measure for them to get cash from you in scotland lol

Please note from 1st oct 2012 changes to the law mean that the Registered Keeper is now "liable" if the driver is not named - But Dont pay still applies.

If you can't park a car properly, you shouldn't be driving and deserve all the fines you get!

It's not even a legitimate invoice....It's speculative.

It's simply an invite to give them money for nothing, dressed up as something official.

All right, a ticket then.

Now have another read of the OP and tell me what it says about parking.

until you are the recipient of a ticket for 90 notes for staying in a McD's car park for 1 second over the allotted time

There you go. I was the 'recipient' of one of these tickets, fines, invoices or whatever you call them a few years ago.

From a company 'managing' a McDonalds car park.

For staying too long in the McDonalds car park......I was actually IN McDonalds at the time.
So, with me being an ex-professional driver, a courteous driver, never had a bump in 17 years, have 13 years NCB.....Shouldn't be driving because I took too long eating a burger? Yeah right lol

I agree this issue could be handled better

However I don't plan on signing such a poorly thought out and worded petition. To be any use these petitions need to be written fairly elequently and argue the case better. Much better.

My point was simply about not being able to park within a parking space, as per the OP.

I presume you managed that OK?

I agree with this statement - and It would seem that's is the single most off putting reason why so many are not signing it.

It is NOT my personal e-petition BTW ....It would be great if this was rethought But I see its of little interest to most until they get a so called parking ticket on a free to park car park.
