I'm clueless in respect to printing so I could use a hand.

For a photograph taken with the Nikon D40( 6 mega pixels) with 240 resolution ppi how big can it print to?


and also when sending a model prints for her portfolio, what size file should you send for an a4 print?

Assuming you want to print at 240ppi (I'd advise 300ppi as a better bet, but check with your printer) you divide the number of pixels for the length and height by 240 which will give you the print size in inches.

For sending an image to be printed I would set the resolution to my chosen ppi value, then resize in inches to the size of the print I want. So for A4 it would be roughly 12" x 8".
