Yes
I'm more than likely about to acquire a large-format printer which will do up to A1. I'm not doing this to make any money, but if I can recover some of the costs by offering prints to you guys - would you buy from me?

I've yet to work out how much it's likely to cost me to run the thing, and I know I'm up against the likes of Photobox on this, but if you live in Birmingham and want to stop by to collect your prints then you'd be more than welcome to. There's always the option of post too, which is only likely to be around £2.50 for a couple of A1 prints in a tube.

Obviously I'm not expecting to get orders for dozens of wedding prints or anything so critical, but for one-off prints on A1 I can probably beat the likes of posterXXL on price by a good few quid (also on delivery).

So, what are my chances? Am I going to regret having this thing filling up my garage? :)

What model are you planning on getting, and what papers are you planning on using

I run 17" and 24" Epson Pro's

Most likely an Epson 24", can't remember the model number off the top of my head. Fine art paper, if I can get it at a reasonable price.

The expense comes when you change from any matt type paper to anything that isn't matt as you will waste so much black ink its unbelievable, unless you run it through a RIP. (As you can only have matt or photo black ink in at a time not both on newer models not sure about old ones)

It will be one of these then

7000, 7500, 7600, 7400, 7800. Oldest to newest in that order.

I use Hahnemühle for my fine art paper.

I would be interested in some quality and resonably priced prints :)

Me too...
I am hoping to get a few prints done fairly soon, so keep us informed..!

I could be interested, but i'd need at least 20 free sample prints :D

and the ability to use a camera in order to get the images to start with :(

Well, nice to know there might be a few opportunities to get some prints sorted out for people. I'll be speaking with the guy this week to find out the running costs and when he can deliver it, so I'll post again soon.

mho: Probably only going to run it with photo black and use it for printing photos I suspect, so hopefully won't be changing inks too frequently.

df: I'm sure I could sort out some proofs if you'll be wanting a few prints done - let me know when you figure out using that camera! ;)

Just make sure the sample prints have a great big MARKP watermark in the centre, that'll sort them :)

Now this does interest me. I'm looking at getting a few shots printed big in the near future anyway so may hold off :)

I'd be interested, and could put some wedding printing work your way too I think.

Cheers
James

I'm in Brum and would be very interested in seeing a price list when it's ready mate. Likely to throw some wedding prints your way all being well :)

Me too as and when you're ready. Any idea on when you'd have prices ready for consideration?

Got to decide on whether I'm getting the thing this week, and then will promptly get some pricing together so I can still afford a weekend away before Xmas!!

Glad to see there's a bit of interest though - I'll post again once I've got it up and running and we can try a few sample shots :)

Out of intrest what are people's preference for gloss, matt, or luster paper? I'll probably only get one roll to start with. I'm more a gloss person myself. I'm told luster is quite popular, as used for wedding and "school" photographs!

For me it would depend on the particular shot I wanted enlarging. No specific preference.

Unfortunately I've had some hefty bills through from moving house which I have to sort out, and I won't be able to afford the printer any time soon.

Sorry about that, if anyone's interested in owning the printer then let me know and I can get some contact details of the guy selling it. It's a year old, seen very little use and comes with ink. It's an Epson 7600. £600 delivered if you're in the south of the country, but PM for specific details.
