Do you print with a border?

If so how wide? (usually)

Thanks

I do.. Its usually 20mm. I prefer a border as I mount the pictures directly onto foam board and hang them. I find the border gives the picture some isolation from the wall/other pictures.

I have also read somewhere that edge to edge printing whilst possible is not recommended because of head strikes on the edge of the paper. I think this is really because quality fine art paper soaks up the ink so much that the paper can expand on the edges and cause head strikes. This is also the reason that a 30mm border is forced upon you when printing on fine art papers using the Pro range of Canon printers.

Working in the lab I hate borders !
Ink jet prints (fine art / giclee) are no problem, c Type prints from a roll are a nightmare with small borders due to mechanical tolerance in the machine, you normally loose about 2mm which makes a thin even border a nightmare.

I always print with border as personally think it looks better than borderless prints. Always using Ilford Pearl smooth and Gold mono silk papers and Epson 4900pro printer. Borders width i have around 10mm.
