Looking to get some of my photos printed via a website.

Any experiences and recommendations appreciated as this is all new territory for me.

If there is a thread already on this., please point me there.

You don't say quite what prints you want but I have been using as required Tradecanvasprint in South Wales and they are also business members here @Tradecanvasprint

I started by buying their prints and latterly their canvas prints.

Ah... yes, sorry, just printed on gloss to go into frames.

I'll look at trade canvas too.
 
I use theprintspace.

Have to use paper profiles (I use Lightroom), edit them in there, and then send to Photoshop to resize, then upload to their website.

300 ppi is a widespread norm. Yes, I know - inches! What era are we in? But decide the wanted print size in inches from the available lab standard sizes, and re-size your image to that at 300 ppi.

A modifier of that is that it's handy to have a border - it helps with mounting to have a bit of extra paper to work with round the margin of the image. So you might factor that in by adding a border within the standard paper size chosen. (Some labs offer an 'add border' option within their upload choices.)

But if you'll be buying in mounts, you might also consider the given mount aperture sizes and aim to tally with them.

Another widespread norm is srgb for colour images.

A noted variable is how light / dark the printed result may be, and this may depend on how well your display is set up. I advise running a smallish test print or two before going the whole hog on an order.

I think I need to get the cheap monitors I have calibrated.
 
Not overthinking it before it happens can save an amount of angst. Sometimes the best way to learn is to try it and see - then tweak the method so that things start to come together.

If your monitors are cheap (!) then I probably wouldn't attempt hardware calibration (buying a device £££), but I'd certainly investigate and run through something like this: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/
 
As mentioned above, DSCL are good and very reasonably priced. I also use a local lab, One Vision Imaging, for larger prints, as I can collect them directly.

Generally, matte prints work better behind glass than gloss prints.

I have a spyder that was going cheap so bought that... I should recalibrate the monitors but I'm thrashed out at work. Especially as i have a new mac studio. But after a day in front on a monitor another monitor at home is ... well you get what I mean.
