Hi all,

Am a bit perplexed and flummoxed as to what is happening.

Following several recommendations and praise for the paper on here, I went and bought myself 10 reams of Tesco's Superglossy finest Inkjet Photo paper today, and thought I would try it out on this image printed A4 borderless (Image is 10MP so not an issue for size etc)

The Printer is a 2-3 month old Canon Pixar 3600.

When I print using the top loading tray and Tesco Paper (same way I have used the printer for every other print)... I get lots of little horizontal rows of miniscule indentations. These are approx 2cm apart form each other and the dots are 0.5mm to 1mm apart horizontally. When viewed head on and level with the eye they are unnoticable - however as soon as any angle of light reflection, very obvious.

I then tried with some HP paper - Premium plus HP photo paper, and don't get the little dots - though if I am being honest, prefer the colours and tones of Tesco's, even if a lot cheaper!

Will a simple recalibration of the printhead help? What i happening?

Thanks

Lynton

It can't do it any harm to recalibrate and clean the heads though it will use some ink, are there profiles available for the printer/paper combo your using, is there an option to set the thickness of the paper you're using

most bizarre,

Checked for blocked nozzles - none, cleaned the print head (even though didn't need it), recalibrated print head.

Tesco's - as before.
HP Super Duper - as before - great!
Staples Satin - the best of the three by a mile!

Could it be that Tessy's s 200g m2, and the hp and Staples are 280 and 270 g m2 respectively?

Just cannot see why the paper would make that difference..... Have checked Tesco's before bunging it through the printer - looks fine!

Sorry don't know the answer, assuming you have the preferences set OK for the Tesco paper.

I do note that you say 200gm paper, the stuff I bought was mostly 260gm with a couple of the packs saying 250gm.

sorry Mike,

That was a error on my part - should read 250g -- confusion between the 250g i bought and the 200g I looked at!

Preferences were set as per the little guide Tesco so kindly put in the pack..........

Will take them back tomorrow for a refund!

Shame - as other than those bloody little dots / indents printed really well!

Could be a faulty batch, Iv'e had this before with supermarket bought paper!

Wontolla,

You have just now hit the nail on the head!!!!

Just take n a sheet out and gone over it with a pencil lead........... reular dots, just as per photo, invisible to the naked eye.........

I guess something to do with conveyor belts on production line......

Is it just this one pack - or all 10.......... well anyhow, problem seems to be resolved, but backto Tescy's in the morn......

Glad to be of help.
Please can you post back when you get it sorted?
When I returned my 3 packs, it resulted in ALL the other stock being withdrawn as they were all the same! Came from China apparently.

well it's sorted, Tesco's refunded all 10 packs.....however the "Customer Services" assistent couldn't see what I meant, but said she'd refund. My guess they will be back on the shelf. So anyone, don't buy from Harford Bridges in Norwich!

Arrrggh! How annoying but at least you got your refund

scraggs - yes printing A4 landscape and dots horizontal as look at the photo. Approx every 1.5 to 2cm top to bottom in rows across the picture - could only see them when light caught at the correct angle.

however, not on Staples own brand or HP paper.

I ended up getting Dataace Glossy Inkjet Photo Paper from Stationary Box. Every so often they put it on special (1/2 price) so I stock up. It's good for the price!! They now call it 'Ryman Photo Gloss' and it's on offer at the mo. Buy one-get one free, so 1/2 price!!

holly thread revival batman :)
I was trying to find an old thread and noticed I hadn't replied to this.
Anyway the marks sound very much like it is the platen wheels imprinting on the paper, could be that the tesco paper is slightly softer on the surface than the others, if it done it on all papers then you could send it to canon but as it's only on tesco paper I doubt they would entertain it.
Some canon 9500 pro's had this problem, but because it happened on one of higher quality papers canon done a mod so that there was less pressure applied to the platen wheels for it.

I believe (Scraggs) is quite right in his answer but here's a little bit more information
One of my printers is an Epson stylus 3000, which gave me a lot of similar trouble in it's early days, it took some time before I realised that the front guide rollers (these look very like minature cowboy spurs) were causing the problem, I managed to unclip and remove all of them and this instantly cured the marks on the prints
I understand that the reason for fitting them in the first place was to compensate for using rolls of heavy paper or canvas, which had the print side inwards, the guide rollers then stopped the paper rolling upwards on itself and jamming
I do tend to wonder why the rollers were made of metal, i don't think a softer plastic would have caused the marks
This problem usually only seems to apply to larger format printers

I hope this may help, but it seems a pity you appear to have given up using Tesco paper as it really has excellent colour rendering qualities
