Hi,

I need some help as soon as possible. I'm printing some photos this evening for a friend but they are printing darker than they appear on screen (something which I'm aware happens). I have Capture NX2 trial software installed but I'm not sure what I should adjust to make the picture print lighter but retain the detail level. If I turn the brightness up, the photo just gets very pale and washed-out (correct terminology??). Any help would be appreciated!!

Most likely the cause is that your monitor is too bright and need to be properly calibrated. What printer are you using and do you have the correct profiles installed?

I'm using a Canon IP5000 printer, and I don't have the profiles installed (well I haven't installed any anyway).
Typically, I don't have a great deal of time. It's something that I need to sort out properly, but as with most problems, I'm in a rush.

Sorry to say that it's really a case of take the time to do it properly or do it quickly and lose quality in the process - as you've already noticed. When you do get some time it would be worth search the forums for threads about colour management

Well I get round the problem by adjusting the brightness slightly, and a bigger adjustment of the Shadow Protection setting. Wasn't perfect but better than it was.
Thanks for the replies, and I will indeed spend some time setting up my monitor correctly :).
