Woke up this morning ,took a wee looky oot the window ,2" of snow .Anyways back to the task in hand .I've been doing a bit of printing lately ,and i'm fed up of being ripped off on the ink side of things ,ridiculous prices ,and the short time they last .It's just a cheapo Hp F2180 printer/scanner.I'm happy enough with the results...for now anyways .. . Is there any alternative to ink cartridges,i've read somewhere about ,is it called ,endless ink ? ,i can't remember to be honest ,or is it worth filling cartridges DIY .

To be honest sometimes it's just not worth printing yourself...companies such as DSCL provide fantastic quality prints for very little cash...don't think you'll match the quality/costs...

sorry if that sounds like an advertisement  I don't work for them etc but I've been through the same thought process as you, some of the online companies however take some beating

Here's a link just incase

:agree:

I worked out that it's nearly 2x cheaper sending them away and the quality is better. The only time I print myself is when I want 6x4 or 9x6 when I use my Dye Sub.

Whats a dye sub ?

What I think you have in mind are called "Continuous Inking Systems".

We had one on our Epson Stylus 2400 and we made huge savings on the price of inks, not to mention saving the hundreds of empty cartidges from going to landfill

I'm not sure if CIS are available for HP but have a Google and see what you can find.

We really enjoy printing our own pictures and having the control that you don't have when you use an on-line printer no matter how cheap they are.

Sometimes its just nice to be able to print your own, that way you get to have them exactly as you want, straight away.
I use an Epson R1400, prints anything up to A3+, and a continuous ink system that is very cheap to run. 6 x 100ml ink bottles at about £30 as opposed to Epsons ink at about £60 for 6 x 11ml cartridges.

Colours are great and it works great.
