I've finally got a few negatives that might be worthy of printing but I'm not sure what to do. I did have a lesson with Rob Hooley on printing so I know the process involved but I always struggle with focusing under the red light.

So, a couple of questions : firstly any suggestions as to good places for having images printed, both colour and black and white and secondly does anyone know if AG Photographic have their lab up and running yet as having another go myself is an option.

Cheers

Andy

Not sure about the AG lab but looking at thier page the other day I would think it is. You can always drop them an email and ask :D

As printing if you look in the back of Black and White magazine their is a chap in Cheshire somewhere that certainly offers a devloping service and I think a printing service (certainly for B&W). A friend had some stufff deved and contact printed and they looked ok.

Sorry can't remeber the name :(

turn the red light off Andy.and use a focus finder

Thanks Nick, e-mail dropped.....

I have used the guy in Cheshire (he's in Crewe same as me) and although he the negs I got back were good he took an absolute age, it is quicker to send them off to club35.

A focus finder you say, that sounds like just the very thing.

You could come back up to Manchester again and do some yourself, much more satisfying than getting someone else to do it

Or you could come to Macclesfield College and do a Dark Room course for a year, which is both fun and frustrating

We hope to have the darkroom finished by end September - this has taken longer than expected, but one or two other things cropped up. It's already largly complete we are just waiting for enlargers and some electrical work. We'll be running a variety of workshops, both evening and weekends.

Also, starting 1st October we will be expanding our lab services to include printing, scanning etc. as we have signed a deal today to take over an existing lab business and move it all under our roof in Birmingham.

You put it on the easel under the negative, turn on the enlarger and adjust the focus until you can see the grain of the negative under the enlarger

Rightio, thank you sir, I'll give that a bash tomorrow if I can find my focus finder

I could never get on with them personally, i mainly shoot slow films so the grain isnt that prominent. I have an easier time focussing on a test bit of paper.

Wouldn't surprise me if it flumoxes me entirely, but I'll give it a bash
