hey guys ive decided i need a printer, mainly to print off letters and stuff but i may as well buy one that will allow me to print out all the photos i never get round to taking.

can anyone recommend a good one (NO HP PRINTERS PLEASE) for under about £140, im a big fan of canon gear but i do know that some epson ones are good as well.

your help is very well recieved, thank you!

I've got an Epson R300 and a Canon IP4200, not much to choose between them, maybe the Epson slightly shades it but pretty subjective.

epsons dry out for some reason, its really annoying having to mess about cleaning heads everytime i go to use my cx6600

I've got the Epson R340. Can be had for around £120. Thing I like about it is the 6 ink cartridge system and the fact that you can buy the inks separately or in kits. Quality seems good, especially compared to me HP printers and once I sort out this profile it should be spot on ;)

Epson R200 here. Sometimes not used for a few weeks - never dried out on me. Only use compatible carts about £1.50 ea or set of 6 for £8.50 so cheap to run. Hardly ever print pictures but when I do they look pretty good to me. Oh and it does CD/DVD printing too.

Cost about £55. Current models probably start at similar prices.

I decided about 3 months ago, to bin my printer (gave it to my nephews so they could print their homework), and only print my photos properly (via mail order). I still havent got any (or missed the printer yet)..lol

I've always been an Epson user, but I just got too sick of my cartridges / heads drying out. I'd make one print, leave it for a few days, then bam, it would need cleaning and purging again. I was going through, on average, one of each cartridge per printing session, so I gave up.

One of my friends has not long since purchased a Canon and he swears by it. He was also a lifelong Epson fan, but is so glad he made the change.

Had a Canon Pixma ip5200 for nearly a year and no problems whatever. Now to be had for less than £90 because the ip5300 is out (same, but a bit faster than ip5200). Absolutely superb. Genuine Canon cartridges for less than £8 each at ValueShop. Profiles supplied are also very good - no need for printer calibration.

I have a Canon MP360 all in one scanner/copier/printer which i use mainly for printing documents, but it does print pretty decent pics too on the rare occasion I use it for that. Cost less than £100 from Argos, original cartridges are fairly cheap (about £5 for black and £10 for colour). Had mine for just over 2 years and am happy with it, and no problems whatsoever (except when it went into storage for four months and I had to buy a new print head as the old one dried out :bang:)

That is my story in a nutshell Marcel.. Epsons for years and swore by them but ended up using more ink cleaning the print heads than what was being used for printing.:(
Got myself a Canon ip4000 for my A4 work and a Canon i9950 for my A3 prints and have never had any problems since..;)
